Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the development, review, and implementation of company policy, procedure, plans, and work instructions. Interview, train, and provide guidance to business unit managers and their subordinates in order to gather the necessary information to develop the required QMS documentation. Provides supervision and technical direction to company auditors and assists manufacturing with interpretation of build specification, statutory and regulatory requirements. Schedules and has oversight of all internal and external audits, which includes ensuring findings are documented and corrected. Analyzes data to determine trends and assists with process improvements efforts. Communicates with executive and management personnel, general workforce, regulatory bodies, customer representatives and other agencies for compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides audit priorities for company auditors.
  • Responsible for the scheduling, planning, and execution of company audits (internal and external).
  • Collects and analyzes data to determine trends and assists with process improvements.
  • Reviews customer audit findings as well as Corrective Action Requests and determines actions necessary to resolve. Facilitates customer response and assists in implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Interview, train, and provide guidance to company auditors related to contract requirements for audit activities, process improvements, etc.
  • Conduct audits, validation of work, and document results. This requires frequent interaction with Regulatory bodies and customer during review of work.
  • Responsible for the development, review, and implementation of company policy, procedure, plans, and work instruction.
  • Maintains a commitment to the company vision and the objectives of the organization.
  • Must abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises auditor and plans audits for auditors outside the Quality Assurance department. Has oversight of all the internal and external company audits. Essential to this position is the ability to lead, direct, coach, and discipline employees in alignment with Company processes, policies, and procedures. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to work in industrial area at times. This may subject employee to moving equipment, elements and extreme conditions. Will be required to work in office environment part of the day to document audits and complete records.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience from an accredited junior/technical college
  • 5 - 7 years' experience in the shipbuilding industry.
  • 5+ years of internal auditing experience.
  • Must have at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Current and continue to hold a Lead Auditor certification in any combination of ISO 9001, 14001, and/or 45001.
  • Six Sigma is preferred.
SKILLS:
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have strong ability to lead teams.
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.
