Job Description

QUALITY LEAD
Are you a customer-fanatic who is energized by solving quality concerns? We’re looking for a Quality Lead who is responsible for being the internal voice of the customer and serving as a quality advocate on the manufacturing floor and throughout P.J. Wallbank Springs (PJWS). This person relentlessly pursues continuous improvement focused on prevention and driven by data, is eager to get to the root cause of a problem, and is always looking for a better way to address customer and supplier concerns. It’s important that the person in this role has an adaptive and collaborative communication style and works effectively with customers and internal team members.

Who We Are
PJ Wallbank Springs, Inc. is the only company in the world specializing in clutch return spring packs for automotive transmissions.  For over 40 years our laser-sharp focus, combined with the effort of great people, has enabled us to be the global leader in our market. We also serve customers with spring pack solutions in powertrain electrification, suspension systems, and braking applications, working across multiple vehicle application segments. As we continue to grow, we are pursuing divergent end-use cases in different industries.
P.J. Wallbank Springs is part of the Wallbank Industrial family, which includes its sister company Edison Manufacturing & Engineering. Our vision is to create multiple operating companies, like PJWS and Edison, to maximize our impact on the world through a consistent “How.” The Quality Lead will serve our PJWS business.
What You Will Do

  • Serve as the first point of contact with customers. Responsible for interfacing with customers and completing requests to customer expectations and to the organization’s standards on all quality related matters (customer scorecards, customer portals, quality concerns, PPM, etc.)
  • Strategic planning for quality, including building a system that achieves business results and is not overly cumbersome or complex. You must be able to achieve requirements using a capital-light mindset and without creating unnecessary complexity for the organization
  • Lead variation reduction activities in collaboration with Engineering to understand key variables responsible for defects and develop methods to overcome
  • Maintain quality budget and reduction of Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
    • Internal & External Sorting Reduction
    • Internal & External Scrap Reduction
  • Key Liaison for supplier development and management
  • Manage and lead compliance to IATF 16949 and ISO14001 standards
    • Manage and complete internal and external audits along with corrective actions
  • Develop key suppliers and ensure incoming supplier quality matches or exceeds expectations.
  • Maintaining Quality Management System (QMS) and developing systems that support cross training and risk mitigation across the business
  • Manage Lab and Product Quality Testing including building across the team on variation reduction, statistical process controls (SPC), and process improvements to reduce defect occurrence
  • Work with Manufacturing to organize sort and containment from external complaints
  • Manage and lead all facility related EHS activities
  • Be involved in the design approval of products, equipment, tooling, gages, and processes
  • On a typical day, you’ll be the direct point of contact for customers and suppliers as well as the production floor to investigate the root cause of quality concerns and recommend solutions and corrective actions based on your knowledge of our manufacturing process and leaning on others in the business when needed. You’ll also lead our QMS and internal and external auditing as well as support with phases of APQP.

What We Expect
  • You’ll make capital-light decisions, implement simple vs. complex solutions, and be accountable for results of overall plant quality as well as COPQ metrics
  • You’ll interface with customers and internal teams in a respectful and timely manner
  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring products conform with expected standards, leading variation reduction activities, and improving scrap results

What You Will Bring to this Role
Ideal Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in a three shift, high volume production setting, preferably with an organization that exports internationally
  • Ability to understand our manufacturing process
