The Department of Surgery Quality Assurance Analyst develops data collection instruments, collects data, and conducts data and trend analyses in support of the Department of Surgery's various Quality Improvement Programs. This position provides analytical support to the Department of Surgery Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and Quality Assurance. The candidate will coordinate and provide information related to Department of Surgery quality program evaluation and be responsible for; scheduling meetings and data collection activities; responding to requests for information; collection analysis, cleaning and management of project data; editing and preparation of documents and reports; organizing and assisting in the design and distribution of informational materials. This position requires independence and innovation with regard to regulatory compliance. Will Develop, implement, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and/or training manuals as they relate to regulatory compliance. Will support department reporting initiatives to assure activities subject to regulatory reviews are well documented and in accordance with the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP), Trauma quality Improvement Program (TQIP) Peds NSQIP, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and other regulatory programs. Collect data on patient satisfaction scores, surgical outcomes, clinical volumes, admissions, complications, and readmission records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience and skills to design and interpret clinical data and outcomes.
  • Experience and skills to develop database queries and searches in or using various systems.
  • Clinical informatics and/or recent experience working with database applications such as Excel, Access, and EMR.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to develop and manage institutional affiliations and to interact with internal and external physicians, executives, and staff.
  • Skills to organize work effectively to achieve timely progress on multiple tasks simultaneously, to establish priorities and distribute effort appropriately among tasks, meet deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Strong analytical skills to appropriately assess problems and needs; present data in a concise meaningful format, and the resourcefulness and sound judgment to propose solutions.

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record EMR
  • Knowledge of CMS regulations and guidelines
  • Knowledge of NesQuip
  • Knowledge of T-Quip
  • Knowledge of M&M's process and procedures

Department Description
The Department of Surgery encompasses a wide variety of surgical specialties. These include bariatric surgery, burn surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma, acute care and surgical critical care surgery, vascular surgery, and oncologic surgery. The Department's extensive surgical expertise, in combination with ongoing teaching and research activities, provide ample resources and advanced surgical techniques for patient care.
