Job Title: Qualitative Core Program Specialist (Entry - Intermediate Level)

Job Summary:

This hybrid position will reside within the Qualitative Research Core in the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. GIM's Qualitative Research Core facilitates the conduct of rigorous qualitative research that contributes to scientific knowledge across GIM-led and GIM-partner projects, advancing the School of Medicine and GIM as a national leader in innovative mixed-methods research, and supports GIM's ability to identify and address systemic inequalities that lead to health disparities. 

The primary responsibility of the Core Program Specialist will be to support qualitative research led by GIM investigators, including qualitative data collection, analysis, and writing; qualitative project coordination and management; participant recruitment and retention activities; and grant application support. The position will involve regular meetings with and oversight by the Director of Qualitative Research at GIM. This is an open-rank recruitment that includes the entry and Intermediate Levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide qualitative methods support as needed for research projects led by GIM investigators, including data collection (e.g., conducting interviews and/or focus groups), analysis (e.g., coding), and reporting of results (e.g., writing support for publications or other deliverables).
  • Maintain qualitative data management system as needed according to all applicable data security, privacy, and regulatory standards, including coordinating primary data collection for study records and project metadata; designing database(s) for qualitative data collection and/or storage; maintaining study records, project performance metrics, and other study documentation; and ensuring secure transfer and storage of all data items throughout project lifecycle.
  • Conduct participant recruitment efforts as needed, including engaging potential participants via phone, internet or in person, confirming participant eligibility, educate potential participants and other stakeholders on research opportunities, maintaining contact tracking records, and drafting recruitment materials.
  • Provide support for writing qualitative portions of grant proposals.
  • Support and/or coordinate simple to moderately complex qualitative projects, and/or discrete scopes of work as part of a larger qualitative project, including activities that could span a project lifecycle (e.g., initiation, planning, execution, control & monitoring, closeout).
  • Perform integrated project management of relevant qualitative project domains as needed, including scope, communications, time, cost, quality, resources, risk, procurement, & stakeholders, and establish project processes to execute project deliverables per defined requirements.

Work Location:

Hybrid - This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year clinical research or related experience.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field.
  • Master's degree in a social science and/or health-related field.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of clinical research, qualitative research, or related experience.
  • Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems).
  • Training in qualitative data collection and analysis. 
  • Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., ATLAS.ti, NVivo).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Ability to collect and analyze qualitative data and support the reporting of qualitative results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently organize multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Proficiency with qualitative data software packages (e.g., ATLAS.ti, NVivo).
  • Advanced proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Entry Level: $47,084 - $59,891

Intermediate Level: $51,239 - $65,176

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
