Job description

BioMADE is working to change the United States’ innovation stance for bioindustrial products by creating a network of pilot and intermediate scale facilities so that U. S. innovators can scale, and ultimately produce, bioindustrial products domestically. This position will be responsible for ensuring that this once-in-a-generation opportunity to create biomanufacturing infrastructure, enabled by President Biden’s Executive Order 14081 (https://tinyurl.com/yyjv7t5j) and focused through the Depart of Defense’s Manufacturing Innovation Institutes (https://tinyurl.com/nn7zpzfw), will set our nation on course to have resilient and secure supply chains for the chemicals and materials originating from renewable feedstocks.

The Director of Capital Projects (DCP) will lead in the design and delivery of pilot and intermediate scale facilities for a national network at 12 to 15 sites. Based on a strong understanding of biochemical engineering principles, the DCP will partner with our membership and consultants to identify needs and convert them into robust unit operations and facilities designs supporting domestic scale up and innovation. The DCP will author or review engineering drawings, equipment datasheets, and other technical documentations for utility systems and process equipment, including automation and control systems. As the design and development process evolves, the DCP will be a key contributor to equipment selection, modification, procurement, installation, and ultimately, start-up.

The DCP will be responsible for driving a more than $100MM capital project and overseeing a small team of engineers working with extensive support and leadership over external contractors and consultants.
