JOB INFORMATION

Public Art Program Administrator positions assist with all phases of the public funding programs and Public Art Programs; participate in staff standing and ad hoc committees which meet monthly or as required; prepare and review various reports and grant applications; provide research, analysis and direction in the development of special initiatives including the implementation of feasibility studies, recommendation of policies and procedures, budgets, marketing strategies and evaluation processes; develop and implement technical assistance and capacity building programs; assist in the planning and coordination of community convenings and other outreach activities as required to advance cultural tourism, diversity initiatives and Public Art projects; collaborate with businesses, nonprofits, associations, artists, contractors, volunteers and members of the general public; act as an ambassador for arts and culture; and perform other duties as assigned.

NOTES:
  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
  • The current vacancy is expected to be assigned to Arts and Culture funding team, whose main focus will be to administer arts and culture funding/grantmaking processes, manage funding award agreements and payment processes, and provide analysis on technical assistance to incubate and build capacity of artists and arts and culture organizations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter) in Art History, Visual/Performing Arts, Arts Administration, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a closely related field.
NOTE:
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of full-time professional experience in the development and implementation of an arts and culture program.
NOTE:
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.

LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
  • Experience with hiring and supervising staff/contractors.
  • Experience with speaking to groups in public for training, promotional or educational purposes.
  • Experience with writing and publishing manuals, reports or policies for a specific audience.
  • Experience with developing and managing budgets over one million dollars.
  • Proven track record of regular, sustained engagement with the arts and culture sector.
  • Experience with data management, quantitative data analysis and trend forecasting.

SCREENING PROCESS

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Employment offers are conditional pending the results of all screening processes applicable to this position, which may include the following: confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting. Fingerprints will be submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice for a conviction record report. All screening processes must be successfully completed before employment begins.
