The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Senior Program Specialist to assist at the Torrance Art Museum!
The Department
The Community Services Department offers Torrance residents the unique opportunity to help achieve a sense of purpose, identity, self-worth and improved self-esteem within the specialized areas of Cultural Arts, Library, Parks and Recreation. The Community Services Department is committed to providing quality services, activities, programs and facilities for all those who live, learn, work and play in the City of Torrance.
The Division
The mission of the Cultural Services Division is to strengthen the City of Torrance as a unique center for cultural programs, the arts and arts education through developing the Torrance Cultural Arts Center as an unified campus for learning and excellence; providing classes, programs, and events that enrich the community through arts training and instruction for all levels of learning; creating new arts experiences and attracting new audiences; serving the unique needs of artists, connecting their work to the public and developing unique artistic resources of and for this community.
Major programs within the Division include the , , and hundreds of classes offered in all the arts for all ages and levels of ability at the Cultural Arts Center. The Division also produces the annual Cherry Blossom Cultural Festival in Columbia Park every spring and a series at The Amphitheater at Wilson Park.
The Position
The Senior Program Specialistwill serve as the Social Media and Volunteer Coordinator. The Senior Program Specialist will be responsible for social media engagement and volunteer development related to visual arts at the Torrance Art Museum.

Hours:This is a recurrent, part-time, non-civil service, as needed position. Hours are flexible but concentrated around exhibitions. This position may be expected to work some evenings and weekends.
QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Any combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills such as:
Graduation from High School or equivalent and two years of increasingly responsible part-time experience at the level of a Program Specialist. A BA/BS in Recreation, Cultural Studies, or a related field is desirable. Some positions may require specific experience and/or education/certification in a field such as: recreation, fine or performing arts, art history, sports, early childhood education, adaptive recreation, senior citizens, parks or science programs.
Some positions may require the following certifications: A valid California Class C Driver's License.
Ideal Candidate:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience with social media platforms and online marketing for museum and gallery environments;
- Knowledge of contemporary visual arts;
- Principles and practices used in the exhibition and interpretation of artwork;
- experience in volunteer development
- Excellent customer service;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those met during the course of work.

Health Insurance (sec. 4.7)
Employee working more than 30 hours per week on a regular basis over 12 months will receive one-party part-time health coverage ($383.66).
Bereavement Leave (sec 4.2)
Up to five (5) working days leave without pay
Holidays (Sec 4.4)
Holiday pay of four (4) hours for Christmas Day (Dec. 25), New Year's Day (Jan. 1), Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, and Veteran's Day.
*To be eligible, employee MUST work at least 12 hours during pay period in which holiday falls.
