The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.
Reporting to the Director, Film Programs, the Associate Director, Film Programs will be a key leader and creative collaborator in the programming of the Museum’s two theaters and other programmable spaces. You will develop and implement a vast range of Film Programs including but not limited to retrospectives, thematic series, preview screenings, guest-curated programs, and large-scale events. We are seeking a responsible, experienced, and highly organized candidate.
You Will:
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Film Programs to curate a range of original and diverse programming for the Academy Museum’s two cinemas.
- Manage, coordinate, and execute various Film Programs.
- Bring rigor and professionalism to the film programming team and bring exceptional writing and presentational skills.
- Write texts for both printed Film Guide and web listings.
- Work with colleagues in curatorial, education, and digital to ensure programs honor cultural calendar moments throughout the year.
- Introduce films and participate in post-screening discussions as moderator.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Creative departments to manage production of printed Film Calendar.
- Liaise with our Digital team for posting content and updates on the Museum’s website.
- Provide feedback on in-house series trailers in a deadline-driven manner.
- Supervise the Manager, Film Programs.
- Assist in driving marketing and publicity efforts for Film Programs.
- Assist in management of departmental budget.
- Support selection and recruitment of new employees.
- Help in research and pursuit of grant opportunities.
- Research and contact filmmakers, scholars, artists, and other experts for introductions and discussions.
