The School Programs Coordinator will play a vital role in designing and supporting interactive educational programs focused on Asian and Asian American art for pre-K-12 and college students and teachers in the museum. This role will collaborate with the educational community, students, teachers, docents, storytellers, and museum staff and will contribute to empowering student learning and enhancing understanding and appreciation of Asian and Asian American art.
The position cultivates positive and respectful relationships with volunteers, staff, visitors, members, and vendors creating meaningful experiences that connect art, education, and the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates interactive programs for pre-K-12 and college students focusing on student curiosity, development, and engagement, and aligning with state and national curricula.
- Maintains current school offerings, while also designing and implementing new museum and school-based programs in partnership with schools to expand our reach.
- Ensures smooth implementation and scheduling of School Programs.
- Provides school tour support by giving tours and assisting with check-ins and activities.
- Acts as the main point of contact and advocates for volunteers facilitating School Programs, supporting their success and creating peer mentoring and review protocols.
- Coordinates outreach efforts to teachers promoting program offerings and updates relevant web pages.
- Advocates for the programs to internal stakeholders and assists in creating reports to the board, the city, and funders, collaborates with the relevant staff and committees to design, schedule, and publicize refresher and ongoing school docent/storyteller trainings and events and provides additional support as needed, supporting effective in gallery teaching and experiences.
- Champions diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging in volunteer recruitment, training, and program design.
- Attends frontline meetings to ensure smooth coordination of scheduling spaces and awareness of programs among staff in visitor-facing departments.
- Provides advanced administrative support to the team, creating reports on audiences served and reach of the programs, analyzing data, creating various items for distributions for various audiences, etc.
- Gathers and analyzes feedback to identify needs and concerns related to School Programs.
- Establishes and nurtures strong working relationships with museum staff, colleagues from other institutions, patrons, consultants, and vendors.
- Performs other duties and projects as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Art Education, Art History, or a closely related field and four (4) years of related work experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, promote educational programs, and foster positive relationships.
- Flexibility, sound judgment, problem-solving skills, tact, and diplomacy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain perspective, and work well under pressure.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with exceptional administrative, analytical, and organizational abilities.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in databases, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends for special events or programs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently.

COMPENSATION
The Asian Art Museum is committed to practicing salary transparency. The hourly range for this position is $29.2308 - $35.1069/hr. This FLSA non-exempt opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:

• 12 days of sick leave
• Group retirement plan starting after one year of employment
This position is represented by Local 1021, Service Employees International Union. New hires typically start at the beginning of the wage range.
