Job Title: Project Coordinator, Asian Pacific Islander Partners and Advocates Countering Tobacco (API PACT) Project (100% FTE)
The California Health Collaborative is seeking a Project Coordinator to take a leadership role in the Asian Pacific Islander Partners and Advocates Countering Tobacco (API PACT) Project. With support from the Senior Director and Project Director, the Project Coordinator will lead the team in the engagement of youth and planning of youth activities for the API PACT Project. API PACT is a Central Valley-based tobacco control project serving Fresno and Merced County Asian American, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities with intentional community engagement that centers voice, agency, wellness, culture, and healing as we build momentum towards ending California’s tobacco epidemic. The program objectives for 2023 – 2025 include working closely with local AANHPI residents to adopt and implement a tobacco retailer license policy in the communities of Clovis and Livingston and partner with AANHPI advocates to advance all areas of health equity in their communities.
- Consults with the Senior Director and Project Director relative to planning, policy, and program direction.
- Responsible for being the lead community engagement staff member in creating safe and inclusive environments for participants, especially youth, engaged in API PACT.
- Presents and models values and behavior consistent with inclusivity, respect, and affirmation of all partner identities.
- With support from the Project Director, develops program progress reports, correspondences, promotional and other program materials.
- In coordination with the Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC), assists in the oversight and planning for all program activities, including strategic planning sessions, policy meetings, community events, evaluation activities and educational presentations.
- Facilitates the involvement of 1-2 interns each school year in program activities through the Public Health Pipeline internship component to provide professional development and experience for AANHPI college students from Fresno State, Merced College, and/or UC Merced.
- Support the CEC in the coordination of the Community Engagement Agreements (CEA) Program to engage local AANHPI serving organizations in program efforts.
- Support the CEC with development and coordination of paid media and social media advertisements and maintaining the program’s social media pages to share educational information, cessation resources, and program highlights and updates.
- Lead the coordination, development and maintenance of a program website that will act as a central hub for networking, strategizing, and information dissemination.
- Supports in reducing barriers for youth participation by identifying methods to meet youth where they are at, identifying modes of transportation to support youth in accessing program activities, and on occasion transports youth in personal vehicles.
- Be available to meet with youth and adult program participants during the school day, after school or on weekends or evenings as required to meet the needs of the community.
- Ensure community advocates are central to the planning of all program activities and ensure authentic engagement in the project’s efforts in Clovis and Livingston.
- Supports the CEC in the development of youth coalitions tasked with leading Policy, Systems and Environmental change in Clovis and Livingston regarding a tobacco retail license.
- Take a lead role in supporting the Community Engagement Coordinators in developing ongoing trainings for youth coalition members on topics related to: Policy and Systems Change, Telling your Personal Story, Stigma-Free Tobacco Prevention, Healing Centered Engagement, Working with Elected Officials, and Advocacy.
- Support the Project Director in training and leading the efforts of the Community Engagement Coordinator to ensure project activities are moving forward, team members feel supported and are successfully demonstrating contract compliance.
- Develop community partnerships to support the goals of the API PACT program, including establishing relationships with school campuses, among elected officials and community organizations.
- In coordination with the Project Director, provides fiscal oversight for the program including managing the program budget and assisting in completing budget modifications.
- Under the supervision of the Project Director, assists with the oversight of personnel to the program, including training of and supporting program staff in achieving performance goals and completing ongoing evaluation activities and support in preparing biannual reports of the impacts of the project.
- Represents the California Health Collaborative at meetings with committees, community agencies, care providers and related entities, and facilitates inter-agency linkages, communication, and collaboration.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attendance at on-site and off-site program activities throughout the community of Visalia multiple times a week is required;
- Attendance at various mandatory out of town/overnight trainings or program activities is required.
Education and experience requirements are a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Administration, Social Work or a related field AND a minimum of two years’ experience working with diverse communities; one year leadership experience required. A valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, procedure manuals, government regulations, technical articles, and general business periodicals. Ability to work independently, exercise initiative and good judgment, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists, and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to create safe and inclusive spaces for all youth participants.
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
Ability to travel and, if necessary, attend out-of-town meetings or conferences which could require overnight travel.
