The Program Support Specialist offers 1:1 or 1:4 support for participants in our various programs. Extra support could include but is not limited to; bathroom, food, social, and emotional. The position is designed to support participants 3 years-adult
The employee will work collaboratively with all Program Leads in our Enrichment Programs. The employee performs work at the BWP Center. All hours worked should/must be documented by the nonexempt employee.
This position requires a high level of autonomy.
Up to 25 hours per week; $17/hour - nonexempt employee - no benefits
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the educational and social development of participants under the direction and guidance of the facilitator and Coordinators
- Get materials and equipment ready to support Program Leads to prepare for the programs
- Assist participants who need additional support in learning a specific concept
- Communicate with participants
- Ensure program safety standards at all times
- Participate in certain planning sessions
- Serve as a positive and nurturing guide
- Attend meetings as directed and/or as it fits with the team’s strategic vision for its scope of work and to achieve the program’s outcomes.
- Attends monthly staff/team meetings to report on the program.
- Accurately maintain written records or notes.
- Effectively and promptly communicates with the Program Lead, Executive Director, or Coordinators in the event that situations arise for which the employee is unprepared or unsure how to proceed.
- Immediately consults with the Program Lead, Coordinators, or Executive Director, in the event of an unusual occurrence; prepares or supports the preparation of Special Incident Reports within 24 hours of the occurrence of such an event.
- Complies with The Brave Warrior Projects Policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Maintains a clear understanding of the rules of the center as well as program rules.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding the client, his/her family, family activities, and any records pertaining to clients.
- Maintains alertness to signs of suspected child abuse; follows mandated child and elder abuse reporting laws.
- Communicate professionally with clients, guardians, parents, and others encountered in the course of work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable Education and Experience:
Minimum of one year‘s worth of experience working with participants with developmental disabilities or special health care needs. Self-motivated, creative, responsible, cheerful, and efficient with time.
Requirements:
● Must be able to work independently and collaboratively.
● Knowledge of Autism and other developmental disabilities.
● Must be 18 years of age.
● Must be able to pass a criminal history review, including submitting fingerprints.
● Ability to obtain food handlers permit
● Ability to work an assigned schedule that supports the center schedule. Hours are Monday, Wednesday, Fridays and will reflect a schedule to meet the participants' needs.
● Valid Washington State driver’s license, access to a vehicle for work, and insurance.
● Bilingual required
