Key Responsibilities:

The Program Manager - Flight Standards Safety & Performance role is fulfilled by a trained and qualified project management professional who can apply United's Envision Design Build Activate (EDBA) and other project management methodologies to deliver assigned portfolios, programs, and projects with high quality, in a timely manner, and with as-scoped benefits for the Flight Standards organization. This team works cross-functionally to deliver upon initiatives across a broad range of safety, operational, and Performance related work. Effective execution in this role is critical to the execution of day-to-day, medium-term, and long-term responsibilities associated with mitigating risk and maximizing performance for Flight Operations.

The Program ManagerFlight Standards Safety & Performance will facilitate and deliver complex program leadership on tasks as assigned and will drive tactical and strategic initiatives that affect safety, operational performance, and efficiency. Responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring tasks are managed in accordance with robust and defined governance, while also managing scope, schedules, resources, and stakeholder contributions to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes.

  • Lead and manage program responsibilities as required. Program tasks will be focused on safety, operational, and Performance related functions within the scope of the Flight Standards organization
  • Lead and be responsible for directing the cross-functional coordination and forward progress of interdependent deliverables required to complete tasks across multiple stakeholders in the Flight Standards organization
  • Provides the weekly updates of the status of assigned tasks. Handles progress and status updates in coordination with Sr Manager, to track outstanding Safety Assurance obligations, which include but are not limited to SMS Hazard Identifications (HI) and any associated Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA)
  • Directly delivers high quality artifacts and outcomes as needed to realize measurable business results
  • Facilitates and creates process/system mapping and analysis to realize business needs
  • Uses project management controls, such as governance, Earned Value Management (EVM), chance control process, and risk/issue mitigation for projects involving multi-departmental stakeholders to deliver internal Flight StandardsSafety and operational program and portfolio strategic objectives
  • Evaluates and reports timely updates to relevant stakeholders and committees
  • Coaches, guides, trains program stakeholders and team members on the design and development of program related artifacts and deliverables
  • The Program Manager must develop, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with internal and external business groups to understand and facilitate timely response and accurate closure of organizational needs, specifically with respect to progress and completion of solutions affecting risk and operational performance management
  • Assists team members and research operational and Performance data to provide statistics, trends, and reporting that inform leadership steering and decision-making teams
  • Provides guidance to adhere to the metrics as well as opportunities for improvement must be brought to light as initiatives, policies, procedures, or other risk controls are implemented
  • Leads the development and builds high-quality visual presentations, dashboards, tools and reports for stakeholders throughout the Flight Standards organization

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Business, analytic, technical, or aviation related field required
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • 2+ years managing projects, or demonstrated relevant experience
  • Demonstrated successful program and/or project delivery using fundamentals of PMBOK practices/methodologies
  • Managing single, or multiple, large and small, complex projects across multiple functions
  • Leading and mentoring less experienced/tenured program or project management staff
  • Presenting, escalating, and providing solutions to senior leadership
  • Providing commensurate levels of specialized technical aviation knowledge or equivalent program management expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills to facilitate the identification and management of all interdependencies and areas of risk
  • Confirmed expertise successfully leading business and technical resources under an integrated project plan to ensure the alignment of resources
  • Demonstrated experience delivering measurable business benefit through project execution
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in facilitating, delegating and motivating cross functional groups or activities
  • Ability to transition requirements of a developed solution into a support model
  • Exposure with change management/facilitation, enterprise communication and training
  • Highly organized, and the ability to multi-task contending priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Ability to handle business and technical resources with an integrated project plan
  • Microsoft Suite -Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Project proficiency
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Has discretion in making tactical decisions; provides input on strategic decisions to management as required
  • Decisions and achievement of results could have a significant impact on the group’s overall performance
  • Effects could be long-lasting; expected to be creative to develop high-impact changes in processes or strategies
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • Intermediate database application skills
  • Demonstrated successful execution using SDLC, PMLC, DMAIC or DFSS methodology
  • Previous experience with voluntary safety reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program, Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program)
  • Previous experience in aviation industry
  • Project Management (PMI) Certification
  • Lean Six Sigma
  • Understanding of Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS) and voluntary safety reporting programs (ASAP)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Macros, VBA, Pivot Tables, advanced charting)

The salary for this position is $91,800 to $134,640, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education and skills. This range is based on a full-time schedule.
