Job Summary: Provides overall leadership for inventory staff and oversees scheduling in the ERP system. Ensures inventory is accurate and communicates with purchasing and production to facilitate changing demands. Reschedules jobs based on customer demand and works with operations manager to plan production needs. Adheres to all health/safety regulations and ensures ISO 9001:2015 processes are followed.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain production schedules to meet customer demand while optimizing resources and minimizing lead times.
  • Collaborate with production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure timely availability of materials and resources.
  • Coordinate and prioritize production activities based on schedule requirements and production capacity.
  • Monitor and adjust schedules as needed to accommodate changes in demand, resource availability, or production constraints.
  • Assess production capacity and identify potential bottlenecks or constraints.
  • Work with operations and engineering teams to optimize capacity utilization and improve efficiency.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Ensure accurate inventory records and minimize excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in production scheduling and planning.
  • Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to enhance scheduling effectiveness.
  • Oversees inventory staff and outside process inspection. Trains staff on visual inspection standards.
  • Oversees creation of part numbers, bill of materials and routers for manufacturing purposes.
  • Is a champion for Lean implementation, 5S and the elimination of waste from the manufacturing process.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency while monitoring scrap rates to determine trends and areas of improvement according to the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in using scheduling software and ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to develop and interpret production processes, prints, diagrams, written procedures, and reports.
  • Ability to set and monitor production goals and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train workers.
  • Understanding of equipment operations and maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work with computer applications necessary for worker supervision and production needs.

Working Conditions: Shop environment. Involves standing and sitting. May involve stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling.

Tools and/or Equipment Used: Computer, drawings, reports and diagrams.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises Inventory and Driver.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management or equivalent and 3 years production scheduling in shopfloor operations, or associate degree equivalent or additional course work in trade or vocational institution and 5 years shopfloor management experience. APICS certification a plus.
  • Lean Certification or 2 years working in a Lean environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and computer technology.
  • Understanding of ERP software, bill of material and routers. (Experience with Global Shop ERP a plus.)
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
