Job Summary:

Under direct supervision, serves as the Production Coordinator of packaging operations ensuring successful business functions of production areas and compliance to product specifications. Contributes to ensuring safe working practices are followed and contributes ideas to simplify and standardize the workplace. Shares ownership in achieving world class performance and continuous improvement of production. Accountable for helping to achieve strategies and goals of becoming the world class, low cost/high quality producer of choice.

About the Role:

  • Executes administrative production activities (i.e. set up line orientation, organize components, perform computer related tasks, systems and paperwork activities and ensure work order request complete) against specific work order instruction and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and records pertinent production information within the work order document. Ensures work order compliance per SOPs and participates in meeting departmental production objectives. Participates in production start-up/set-up activities, in-process product inspections to ensure product quality is maintained and controlled to prevent costly production errors, and on-going production activities as needed including, but not limited to acting in the assembler and material handler roles (performing returns, RF device and daily production set-up duties). Knows and understands the quality evaluation system for packaging and acts a resource to the team. Partners with Production Line Technicians to identify and resolve mechanical and/or quality issues.
  • Monitors duties of production personnel within the Cell (Manufacturing Cell Structure) by leading and motivating team members, including temporary personnel, applying Company leadership principles to ensure production quality and safety standards are met in accordance with MK Policies and Standard Operation Procedures. Maintains workplace organization and cleanliness practices. Leads team building Kaizen events for problem-solving by using scientific lean methodology. Follows all SOP, WI (Work Instruction), Warehouse, and GMP compliance-related policies and procedures during all production-related activities.
  • Assists with set-ups, sanitization verification, daily start-up, tuning, and basic troubleshooting of packaging machinery in accordance with production requirements to ensure proper operation of machinery and supports other Production Line Technicians by assisting with changeovers. Follows safety precautions to prevent product contamination and injury to self and others. Assists in meeting departmental production objectives and contributes to performance improvement initiatives within the team, including contributing to 5S and cleanliness practices, conducting housekeeping observations, simplifying and standardizing work processes, and promoting teamwork and self-discipline.
  • Partners with production personnel within the team to conduct end-of-run component and work order reconciliation and resolve any component and/or finished good inventory discrepancies that arise during a production shift. Maintains a record of scrap and downtime. Monitors the usage and coordinates the accurate and efficient return of materials at the end of the production run. Records production information in the Mary Kay Business Systems (MKBS) and the manual production log in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Enters into MKBS all proper locations, quantities, and lot numbers of components and bulk used during a production run.
  • Evaluate and assist in resolving operational issues. Follows a defined trigger-point system to ensure the appropriate level of urgency is communicated to management concerning production issues. Interacts with Package Engineering, Scheduling, QA/QC Labs, Inventory Control, Engineering Support, Packaging, and Warehouse personnel to expedite solutions to problems. Participates in visual management initiatives such as visual board updates, share safety and production targets/actuals with teams and management.

12 hrs/day -Thursday-Saturday Nights (36 hrs/week)
Work schedule - 5:50 PM - 6:20 AM

Skills & Experience:

EducationHign School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: 3+ years experience in manufacturing or warehouse

Additional Skills & Abilities

  • Must be proficient with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) requirements.
  • Must be able to read and write English and be able to understand basic instructions, day codes, and to interpret procedures; and communication this information to others.
  • Must be able to start-up and shut-down machinery and make minor adjustments to machinery according to established procedures.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations, utilizing addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions typically acquired through a high school education or equivalent in order to complete paperwork and maintain records pertaining to the packaging line.
  • Must be able to pass Production Coordinator certification.
  • Must have the ability to practice leadership principles in order to effectively coach and motivate team members and to resolve employee relations issues that occur on a daily basis.
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented in order to interpret specifications and prevent costly production errors. Must be well-organized and have the ability to multi-task in order to manage several work orders simultaneously. Must have good decision-making abilities and problem-solving techniques in order to expedite the Trigger-Point System and manage inventory accuracy and/or batch reconciliations.
  • Must be able to type and possess data entry skills in order to utilize various computer business systems (batch inquiry, inventory status, etc.).
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of operational procedures and work with supervisors to develop and execute training plans for production personnel.
  • Must have the ability to utilize strong verbal and written communication skills to interface with other support groups. Strong interpersonal skills are required in order to interface with all Operation’s support groups/customers on an as needed basis for daily/routine packaging line issue resolution.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment. Actively participates in and contributes constructively to team meetings and related discussions or problem-solving.
  • Must be able to follow, demonstrate and promote daily all safety rules and regulations as they apply to the production area.
  • Must be able to visually inspect component parts for compliance with quality standards, check day codes and other required coding, check product labeling, and match product with the appropriate components.
  • Must have the manual dexterity to place component parts on the packaging line, fill hoppers, make minor adjustments to machinery, and pack product into components.
  • Shift or schedule change may be necessary due to changing business needs.
