Job Summary
The Production Controller will build and maintain daily production schedules and other production planning documents. Further, this position will monitor inventory and initiate purchases to fill projected material gaps, accounting for lead times to avoid interruptions to operations. This position is the nerve center for our increasingly busy manufacturing team, serving as the right-hand for the Plant Manager. This position is the primary interface for production with Material Requirements Planning software, initiating all manufacturing orders, ensuring material needs for each order are filled, kitting the materials for assembly, and closing out the order after the job is complete. This is a new position within the team, and the roles and responsibilities can be expected to evolve with time and experience.
Role / Responsibilities
- Tracks the day-to-day production staff and workcenter loading on behalf of the Plant Manager.
- Assesses the production process to ensure delivery of products that meet customers needs, identifying an issues or risks that could impact meeting manufacturing demands.
- Identifies any bottlenecks or delays in production; ensures necessary labor, materials, and other resources are available to relieve production bottlenecks and delays.
- Uses production planning and scheduling to limit materials, equipment, and personnel shortages.
- Schedules maintenance and repair of machines used in the production process to avoid downtime or delays.
- Assesses and tracks appropriate metrics, to include: production throughput, yield, first pass quality, on time delivery, and rework to inform leadership decision making.
- Collaborates with the quality and engineering departments to identify and resolve concerns that may hold up production.
- Performs regular inventories of production materials.
- Kits production materials needed for each manufacturing order.
- Process material release requests.
- Ensures ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements are met during production.
- Initiates manufacturing orders in manufacturing resource planning software, initiates purchases to cover material shortages, and updates the status of jobs.
Background and Experience
- At least three years of relevant experience required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person.
- Knowledge of manufacturing requirements and planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with computerized materials control programs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
- At least three years of relevant experience required.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
