PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Performs programmed tests on new and current pump models and related products, machine prototype parts, and assist the PE Lab Manager in execution of his duties and responsibilities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work Orders and Test Requests
- Interpret Work Orders and Test Requests and plan for timely completion
- Assure proper completion of Work Orders, including:
- Recommend and provide necessary equipment (other than machines) required for testing.
- Recording of results, analyses, and summary remarks
- Review of test data for accuracy
- Write test report detailing procedures, results, observations and recommendations
- Recommendations for product improvement and development
- Complete documentation for certified Test Requests.
- Training
- Prepare for and assist with instruction for training programs (i.e. Viking held seminars and internal training).
- Assist in training of personnel in safe working conditions, proper use and care of Laboratory equipment.
- Miscellaneous
- Maintain and improve 6S Work Environment
- Carry out special assignments, as deemed necessary by the PE Lab Manager.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Two-year technical degree or 5 years equivalent technical experience (mechanical engineering, Tool and Die Making, Machinist or like degree - including course work in instrumentation, hydraulics and basic electronics desired).
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to interpret Work Orders, and work with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to interpret test results, draw conclusions, make summaries, and convey the results clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints.
- Must be able to keep neat and accurate records.
- Desirable characteristics include pump or fluid handling experience and/or experience in a mechanical test lab environment.
- Must work in team environment using shared workspace and equipment.
- Available to work flexible hours (including weekends as needed) desired.
- Assembly experience desired.
- CNC machining abilities desired.
- Ability to properly lift heavy objects (i.e. pump parts, test set-up equipment, etc.)
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
- Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
- Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis and up to 70 pounds on a periodic basis.
- General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.
- Frequent contact with Project Engineers, Design Technicians, Application Personnel, Production Control, and Quality Assurance. Occasional contact with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Managers, Toolroom Supervisor, Marketing, and Shop personnel.
