Position Summary:
Our client is seeking a Process Engineer for the facility in Knoxville, TN. The Process Engineer will report to the Process Engineering Manager.
As a Process Engineer, your job will be to focus on reducing process variation inherent with any manufacturing process, for the purpose of reducing waste, manufacturing cost and production downtime. The priority of assigned tasks can be determined by Process Engineering metrics or tasks needed to meet corporate and plant wide objectives. There is also opportunity for the Process Engineer to seek areas of interest and improve those areas as well.

• Process Engineering:
o Combine knowledge from many sources to fully understand the root of a problem
o Discuss the issues with production leadmen, operators and mechanics
o Study the equipment through live observation or recorded video
o Study the PLC logic (with assistance from a controls engineer if needed) to understand how the equipment should work
o Combine this knowledge and construct hypotheses to fix the problem
o Develop possible solutions, design trials, conduct trials and analyze results of trials
o Present findings and recommended permanent solutions for review by management team
• Project Engineering:
o Take the above results and scope, budget, perform cost benefit analysis, calculate payback and request funding for proposed permanent solutions.
o Once funding is approved, coordinate the installation of the solution with operations, mechanics, and contractors (electrical and mechanical)
o See the job though startup and commissioning
o After commissioning, optimize the system to achieve the initial goal to reduce downtime or reduce process variation
• Participate in various meetings: Daily production meetings, weekly department meetings, monthly shift meetings, annual safety training.
• 3+ years of manufacturing experience
• Four year Engineering degree from an accredited university
• Ability to work with all levels of the organization
• Comfortable reporting to executive level
• Comfortable developing solutions and managing assignments independently
• Mechanical intuition – ability to understand how something works by looking at a drawing or watching it in action
