Note: This job is situated in Ann Arbor and daily on-campus work is required. The anticipated schedule for this position is daytime hours Monday through Friday (exact schedule to be determined with the operations manager). The schedule may also require paid overtime for early morning, evening, and weekend hours during peak times.
Summary
The Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning is seeking a Printing and Instructional Support Specialist to join our business operations/information technology team. Reporting to the operations manager, ( our organizational chart ), you will deliver a range of Printing and plotting services (from self-service to full-service), specifically tailored to the needs of architectural design and education, but for other disciplines in the college and across campus. We ask that you understand small-/large-format Printing and plotting techniques and be able to troubleshoot and advise on file repairs to achieve final printed documents. In addition to printing, you will help understand faculty teaching and student learning needs and provide support through acquisition of instructional materials and supplies. You will also manage student and temporary workers who are a shared resource between Printing and cashiering. The work of this role is likely to evolve over time to meet the Instructional Support needs of the college.
Responsibilities*
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot small- and large-format printers, plotters, and other related equipment. Ensure performance and quality output.
- Help set up, monitor, and upgrade a self-service system for students and faculty.
- Produce high-quality prints, including architectural plans, elevations, sections, and 3D renders. Manage online submission system and print queue.
- Work with students and faculty to prepare digital files for printing. Provide guidance on file formats, resolution, color management, and layout optimization.
- Maintain inventory of printing materials and supplies. Select and order appropriate media, inks, and other consumables, keeping up with the latest trends and advancements in printing technology.
- Work with faculty to keep materials supplies updated with teaching requirements and the academic schedule.
- Provide technical support and training to students and faculty on Printing and plotting techniques. Develop instructional materials and conduct training sessions.
- Collaborate with faculty and students on special projects, exhibitions, and presentations. Offer advice on Printing and plotting strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
- Advertise the college's printing services across campus, and communicate with the college community about protocols and scheduling.
- Track and reconcile printing including creating reports for printing volume on self serve PCounter System and reconciling orders in Concur.
- Understand faculty teaching and student learning needs and provide support through acquisition of instructional materials and supplies.
- Manage and train student and temporary employees
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in printing-related positions
- 1+ years of experience in large-format Printing and plotting
- Proficiency in software such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modeling programs
