Role Summary
The Magna New Mobility team is seeking a talented & nimble engineer to join our Powertrain (energy storage & propulsion) team to solve challenging problems towards advancing mobility for everyone and everything. An ideal candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment and comfortable working with ambiguity to develop innovative solutions solving problems related to people and goods mobility. You will be responsible for developing concepts, prototyping, validation and launching them into production. Key Responsibilities
- Ability to architect complete powertrain systems. Battery selection, electric machine selection, DCDC selection.
- Electric machine calculations: continuous and peak power needed for individual drive cycles, gradeability, and various tire sizes
- Ability to read, understand and create diagrams, charts, and schematics, as well as develop test specifications.
- Create system and component requirements for electric machines / wheel hub drives.
- Ability to architect CAN messages for faults, cyclic messages, and motor operation
- Calculate overall power consumption including high and low voltage
- Create system and component requirements for energy storage systems
- Understand motor efficiency and effects on power consumption
- Develop creative engineering solutions to solve complex problems.
- Work with engineering tools to develop prototype and/or production intent solutions.
- Evaluate technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering principles, company standards and customer requirements.
- Understanding of DCDC functions and operational modes. Ability to right size the DCDC for the vehicles needs
- Analyze engineering results and proposed product changes to determine feasibility, and improvement of functional performance.
- Direct testing activities for components and equipment under designated conditions to ensure operational performance meets specifications
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Degree in an Engineering or related field
- Comprehensive understanding about automotive technology
- Good understanding of basic engineering principles including FEA, GD&T etc.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
3+ years of recent, in-depth, hands-on experience in a relevant field in the automotive industry

- Strong spoken and written English language skills, additional languages skills desired
- Ability to work in global team-based environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office incl. high level skills on PowerPoint and Excel
- Excellent professional communication skills (written and verbal) and good presence
- Demonstrated technical ability and creativity to initiate, direct, and control specific projects.
- Basic understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and their importance in automotive systems
- Knowledge of laboratory mechanical testing (tensile, hardness, metallurgy)
- Coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Provide design direction to CAD Designers and assist them in altering or modifying designs to meet objectives
- Communicate design concepts with CAE Engineers and evaluate structural analysis results
Work Environment
Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer. Local and/or international travel may be required.
