About the Job
Do you have at least 5 years of nonprofit human resources & Operations under your belt and want to work at a nonprofit that centers belonging, dignity, and justice? CCI has grown substantially in recent years, and we are hiring for a People & Operations Manager to support our ever-expanding operations work.
We are looking for a passionate, driven, and organized People & Operations Manager to manage CCI's talent management (including hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts), learning and development, internal operations, and performance management system. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented problem solver and an excellent communicator. This person is a self-starter excited by the prospect of both learning how CCI currently operates and determining how to best grow CCI's people related and operational practices to support the organization's mission and program goals.
This position works closely with the Director of People & Culture, the Operations Coordinator, Tides Center, and the CCI team to improve and sustain CCI's operations, talent management, learning and development, and performance management. The People & Operations Manager is a full-time exempt position and will report to the Director of People & Culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
People/Human Resources Administration (65%)
This role will manage all HR administrative processes for a staff of 30 people, including:
- Manage the hiring of new staff members including recruitment, the interview process, and onboarding, as well as offboarding and other staff transitions, and work closely to provide support and guidance to hiring managers.
- Manage performance management at CCI, including annual performance reviews and providing coaching to staff and managers to ensure quality and consistency and solve personnel issues.
- Manage learning and development of CCI staff, including managing professional development opportunities and training across roles. Works with Senior Manager of Technology and Business Operations to host and organize continuing education materials.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of labor law and assure organizational compliance, including providing guidance to staff and managing organizational risks.
- Work with the Director of People & Culture to update personnel policies as needed and create new personnel policies where there are gaps.
- Work with the Director of People & Culture and Finance Director to manage salaries, including periodically updating salary ranges, conducting salary comparisons, and working with managers to implement salary changes.
- Continually improve HR practices, including aligning processes with CCI values.
- Research, problem-solve, and make recommendations on complex HR administrative questions that inevitably arise.
- Support the Director of People & Culture on other people/human resource matters as needed.
- In the future (1-2 years), when CCI spins off and becomes an independent nonprofit, either directly manage or identify, contract with, and manage payroll and all payroll-related systems and benefits.
Operations (30%)
- Manage CCI's office in downtown Oakland, including equipment, internet, etc. and ensures that office is operating smoothly, including supporting CCI staff in using the office.
- Work with the Senior Manager of Technology and Business Operations to manage maintenance of all computers & other physical equipment, including wifi network, printers, software, and backup systems.
- Act as primary liaison between program teams and Tides Center in processing grants-out requests, tracking progress of requests, and confirming payment and installments to grant recipients.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating organization-wide processes, standard operating procedures, and guidelines, ensures accuracy in internal process documentation, and identifies opportunities for process improvement.
- Supports in setting agendas, facilitating, recording notes, and preparing materials and content for all-staff in-person and virtual meetings and as well as teambuilding activities.
Other and Organization-wide responsibilities (5%)
- Participate in cross-department committees and teams as needed.
- Support some finance processes and projects as needed, such as the annual budgeting process.
- Other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- You've done this before5+ years of experience working as a People Partner, HR Manager, HR Program Manager or similar role.
- Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate effective skills in maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with a broad range of partners.
- Strong organizational and task management skills to plan and execute tasks.
- Experience using information management tools, including Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on Outlook, Excel, Notion, and OneDrive.
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Ability to juggle and track multiple projects and requests at once.
- Strong communication skills and close attention to detail.
- Ability to anticipate problems and work towards resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to set up processes, systems, and workflows, ensure adherence and follow-up, and continually improve them.
- Experience in administering complex policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to listen, analyze and inform appropriately while maintaining the required sensibilities in handling confidential information.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
Required Qualifications
- Education bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, human resources, or related field.
- Some work will be performed in an office environment and requires the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items, including computer monitors and equipment, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- SPHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification.
- Knowledge or experience with quality improvement, performance improvement, human-centered design, or Lean/Six Sigma knowledge.
- Experience using Salesforce.
Location
The person in this role is expected to intermittently work from the CCI office in downtown Oakland to complete office management responsibilities. Otherwise, CCI is allowing remote work from home. Exact expectations for frequency of in-office work for this role will be determined upon hire. We are currently working in a hybrid environment with staff expected to attend in-person trainings, team and community building events.
Compensation + Classification
CCI is committed to paying competitive wages. To continue our commitment to equity and because we understand that salary negotiations inherently have an unfair bias we do not participate in a salary negotiation process for any candidate. Salaries for each position are uniform company-wide and non-negotiable. The People & Operations Manager role corresponds to level 3A, with an annual salary of $92,900.
This is a full-time exempt position and will report to CCI's Director of People & Culture.

All staff join CCI with 15 days PTO + 12 wellness days per year. After one year of service, PTO increase to 20 days per year. Since the pandemic, CCI also observes one full week winter and summer break, where the entire organization closes for a time of collective rest.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to attend meetings, communicate orally and in written formats, and perform computer work up to 8 hours per day.
