DIMENSION & SCOPE:
Candidate should be a detail-oriented individual who provides expertise in the payroll function in a fast-paced organization. The Payroll Manager is responsible for managing theUS and Canada payroll teams and bi-weekly payroll processing for Canada. The position provides guidance to other teams including HR, Benefits, Tax, and Accounting as well as ensures compliance with corporate and country-specific policies and procedures.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the day-to-day payroll operations ensuring accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly Canadian payroll for approximately 2,500 employees.
- Oversee bi-weekly processing of three US payroll companies.
- Own month-end close, quarter-end and year-end payroll processes and related tax reconciliations.
- Identify, resolve, and document errors, issues, and risks.
- Periodically review and evaluate US and Canada payroll processes. Propose and manage change implementations when necessary to improve payroll efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with country, federal, state, provincial and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Drive process standardization and improvements to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Partner with Accounting team to ensure accurate general ledger reporting and reconciliations.
- Create, maintain, and manage relationships with internal and external business partners, providing accurate and timely responses to requests from these partners.
- Lead implementations, training and coaching for payroll team of three between US and Canada.
- 7 years payroll experience
- Process payroll for at least 1000+ employees and have experience working in multi-national organization
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 2-3 years supervisory experience
- Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or equivalent
- Experience with automated payroll systems required (ADP preferred)
- Experience using automated time capture system (Workday preferred)
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of best payroll practices plus payroll tax compliance requirements for both Canada and US.
- MS office, including advanced excel
- Oracle experience a plus
- Associates degree required.
