Description:

The Payroll/HR Specialist administers and supports various day-to-day HR activities and oversees and administers the organization's bi-weekly and annual payroll functions.

Payroll

  • • Process bi-weekly payroll and complete related activities.
  • Maintain and review payroll processing and related accounting systems.
  • Balance hours, pay, benefits deductions, garnishments, employee charges, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Verify changes, including new hires, terminations, and rate changes.
  • Identify and recommend updates, and lead PR/HRIS configuration changes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Support and respond to audit activities and requests.
  • Complete payroll year-end processes.
  • Create payroll, HR, and benefits reports.

Human Resources

  • Develop consultative partnerships with managers; interpret policies and procedures and advise on best practices and compliance.
  • Assist with benefits administration.
  • Support recruitment and staffing activities, including posting jobs, screening candidates, interviewing and preparing offers, and onboarding new employees.
  • Utilizes the HRIS to complete various tasks, build reports, troubleshoot, and respond to questions.
  • Support leave programs, compliance, and tracking.
  • Assist with employee training and development.
  • Maintain electronic file systems and retention processes.
  • Manage and update job descriptions.
  • Assist with performance management.
  • Collect and file workers’ compensation incident reports.
  • Cross-train with other HR team members.
  • Work with the HR team members to streamline processes, improve efficiency and increase productivity.
  • Enter employee status updates, address changes, and transfers in the HRIS.
  • Receives and addresses employee questions regarding company policies, procedures, and benefit plans.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending online or in-person workshops, training or utilizing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions, including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, HRIS, and Payroll software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build rapport and establish trust.
  • Proficient with 10 key calculators.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Three years of Payroll and Human Resources experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working with federal and state employment and payroll laws and regulations, including ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, EEOC, FLSA, and DOL helpful.
  • Related HR/PR certifications preferred; SHRM-CP or SCP, HRCI-PHR or SPHR.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Work Environment

  • Conducts work in a professional office environment. Routinely uses standard office equipment.
