Payment Specialist I Starting Salary Range: 

  • $16.43 - $17.50 Hourly

Payment Specialist IDuties & Responsibilities

  • Accurately processes all incoming mail and specific electronic deposits and loan payments within department’s service standard. Thoroughly reviews all available account information and verifies the accuracy of each transaction in a timely manner to ensure proper account processing. Communicates back-log or potential back-log situations to Lead as soon as possible to ensure immediate resolution.
  • Masters and effectively utilizes the computer terminal and on-line system, and all required commands, including general ledger fee and transaction codes, to produce error-free work.
  • Balances monetary instruments and daily work in accordance with established accuracy and balancing time standards to ensure member account integrity.
  • Processes debits to members’ accounts for returned deposit items in compliance with department service standards. Prepares and mails notification package to members including an explanation of the action taken, the return item, and a receipt showing the debit to the account. Forwards negative balance documentation to the Collections Department to minimize potential loss and ensure proper collection on the amount returned.
  • Processes deposit batches from SCCU HQ departments through branch capture and reconciles totals for each department’s daily deposit reports. Reports discrepancies to Accounting and department management.
  • Encodes and processes savings bonds from all branches for submission to the Federal Reserve each day.
  • Assists in research/fulfillment of member requests for allocations, statement and check copies, receipt copies, questions regarding posting errors, etc. received from the Member Service Center and SCCU branches in order to respond to member within service standards.
  • Assists in balancing and researching discrepancies for ACH, Wire and related general ledger transactions.
  • Using standardized templates, prepares communications to members and/or merchants regarding results of research, resolution of issues and/or apology to merchants/members for returns caused by SCCU errors or omissions.
  • Completes other area tasks such as sending daily work boxes offsite, placing supply orders and covering the front desk during receptionist breaks/lunch breaks.

Payment Specialist IQualifications

  • 6 months to 1-year prior experience in a financial institution.  Experience in processing deposit and loan payments preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with deposit and loan processing systems and software.
  • Demonstrated data entry and keyboard skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize job tasks, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure complete understanding and comprehension of the intent and content of the communication.

Payment Specialist IHours

  • Full Time during department hours. 
  • Must be available Monday - Friday during department hours of 6:00am -  7:00pm
