Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing plumbing commercial/residential inspection enforcement work in securing and maintain compliance with rules and regulations.
Job Description
Essential Functions
1 Conducts inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Plumbing Code and International Fuel Gas Code
2 Issues written orders for the correction of defects in material or workmanship and any other violation of codes and ordinances.
3 Notifies contractors when codes violations are found and advises them on the necessary changes or actions that need to be taken to meet code requirements.
4 Advises and provides information regarding procedures and follow-up actions.
5 Prepares reports and recommendations showing results of daily inspections and recommends necessary changes and corrections noted from daily inspections.
6 Prepares and maintains records of Inspectors' Licenses, permits issued, inspections performed.
7 Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1 Knowledge of plumbing inspection procedures, protocols, and policies.
2 Knowledge of code compliance and enforcement.
3 Knowledge of human relations and supervision necessary to function as a lead worker.
4 Knowledge of plumbing, irrigation, gas, and related mechanical expertise.
5 Knowledge of construction methods and techniques.
6 Knowledge of Plumbing and Mechanical Codes.
7 Knowledge and ability to utilize basic computer programs and email platforms.
8 Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, depending on the assignment.
9 Ability to read, interpret, and apply City codes and ordinances.
10 Ability to conduct thorough inspections.
11 Ability to establish a good rapport and working relationship with federal, state, and local agencies, other city departments, and the general public.
12 Ability to effectively enforce city codes and code-related rules and regulations with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
13 Ability to use power and hand maintenance tools, inspection tools, and precision test equipment.
14 Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE:
- Six (6) years of experience as plumbing inspector at the journeyman level.
EQUIVALENCY:
- Master Plumber License issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) will substitute for 4 years of the experience and license requirements.
LICENSES and/or CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current Journeyman Plumber License issued by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE)
- Current Plumbing Inspector license issued by Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE).
- Current International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Plumbing Residential and Commercial Plumbing Inspector.
- Current International Fuel Gas Inspector certification.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
PREFERENCES:
- Additional International Code Council Certifications is a plus.
- Spanish bilingual skills a plus.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment preferred.
- Excellent Customer service and communications skills preferred.

$63,565.31 - $79,456.64
