Job Summary
Analyzes commercial and multi-family building plans and specifications for compliance with City Building Codes Work is performed with considerable independence with a supervisor providing technical assistance on complex problems, and work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results and application of established codes and regulations.

Job Description

Overview
The Senior Plans Examiner- Plumbing reviews, examines, and analyzes residential, commercial and multi-family building plans and specifications for compliance with City Plumbing Codes.
Essential Functions
1 Performs skilled technical work in examining plumbing, irrigation, and mechanical plans and specifications to verify that installation is up to current code and city standards; communicates with applicants and engineers regarding the review process.
2 Meets and collaborates with other trade reviewers to ensure plumbing and mechanical approvals are not conflicting with other building and construction trades; gives advice and direction for plumbing plans related to general building plans and design.
3 Researches, investigates, and searches periodicals, related documents, and other reference materials to ensure complete understanding of Codes and Plumbing standards; maintains good relationships with engineers and other contractors to effectively review and check plans for Plumbing compliance and transparency.
4 Collaborates and engages with Code Compliance officers, Building Inspection Administration, Current Planning Staff and Building Inspectors to address plumbing issues that arise in the field; assists in expediting the plan review process.
5 Provides insight, technical knowledge, and code expertise to ensure all plumbing, irrigation, and mechanical plans examining is completed accurately and communicated effectively; provides extensive and professional customer service and engages with the public in multiple ways.
6 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Thorough knowledge of building and plumbing codes with considerable knowledge of other City codes, ordinances and safety regulations affecting building construction.
2 Knowledge of City construction codes.
3 Knowledge of state laws applicable to inspection
4 Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with the general public while discussing, explaining, and interpreting standards and codes.
5 Ability to read and accurately interpret construction plans, specifications, and reference materials.
6 Ability to analyze facts, recognize problems, and to formulate and implement viable solutions
7 Ability to lead and direct subordinate staff and monitor work for quality control and standards.
8 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
9 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma, GED
Experience
Three (3) years interpreting and ensuring compliance with municipal/state codes as a private and/or municipal plumbing inspector and/or Plans Examiner for commercial projects.
Licenses and Certifications
Must obtain an International Code Council plumbing and mechanical Plan Review inspector certifications within 12 months of employment.
