As a Park Maintenance Assistant, you will perform assignments in our Parks and Urban Forestry Division to help support our City parks and landscapes. This is a seasonal position that could work up to 40 hours per week with a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1- June 30). The season depends on the weather and workload, generally early spring to late fall.
Our division consists of crews with the following schedules:
- Downtown Weekend Crew: 4:00AM-12:30PM Thursday-Monday (5 days, 8 hr shift)
- Downtown Weekday Crew: 4:00AM-12:30PM Monday-Friday (5 days, 8 hr shift)
This is a temporary part-time position not to exceed 1,000 hours. Temporary and part-time employees are at-will and not covered by the Civil Service System. Some benefits for temporary employees include sick leave, temporary employee retirement plan, and 3.5% bilingual pay if applicable.
TYPICAL TASKS
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Cleaning restrooms, empty garbage cans, cleaning picnic sites
- Removing weeds and trash from parks, landscaped areas and roadways
- Operate edgers, string trimmer, blower and vacuum
- Assist in preparing ball fields
- Plant trees, drag brush, assist with tree work
- May operate small trucks or utility vehicles
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of California Class "C" Driver's license and a good driving record is required.
Sufficient physical strength, ability, coordination and stamina to perform the required duties.
