Optometrist Assistant/Receptionist

Eye Care Center of North Jersey is seeking a motivated, eager to learn, and friendly candidate to join our dynamic team as a Optometrist Assistant/Receptionist in our Scotch Plains, New Jersey office. The position is for part-time employment, and candidates will be expected to work approximately 25 hours/week. Shift hours vary Monday through Friday between 8:30am to 7:00pm.

Estimated days and hours are as follows: Mondays 2-7pm, Tuesdays 2-7pm, Thursdays 11-7pm, Fridays 9-4pm.

Responsibilities:

• Greet and welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
• Operation of all pre-testing equipment. Training for all machines and patient flow for the office will be provided with on-the-job training
• Collaborate with medical staff to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient operations
• Maintain patient records and update electronic medical systems
• Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, perform patient recalls, manage patient inquiries, verify insurances, process claim submissions
• Understand and explain paperwork and insurance benefits to patients
• Check patients in, prepare them to see the doctor by performing preliminary testing, and help in the instruction of contact lens insertion and removal for new wearers
• Verify insurance information and assist with medical billing and coding
• Assist with retail sales of contact lenses, medical supplies, and / or products
• Handle administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and organizing documents

Qualifications:

• High school education or equivalent required
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Good organizational and record keeping skills
• Technologically literate with strong computer skills
• Friendly, cheerful presence and people skills
• Self-starter who can work independently
• Ability to follow directions
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Basic math skills for transactions
