Ophthalmology
Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is looking to hire a Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Ophthalmology department. We are a busy specialty and emergency hospital built around a collaborative culture. We believe in practicing both the science and the art of veterinary medicine in an environment that fosters out of the box thinking, collaboration, and communication among each other and the outside world and having fun while doing so.
The ideal candidate will assist the Ophthalmologist with appointments and procedures in companion animals, including exotics.
Responsibilities and Skills:
- Able to properly restrain patients based on ailment (ie; patients with shallow orbits, patients with descemetocele) and following Fear Free principles
- Basic knowledge of the use and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment
- Able to perform basic diagnostic tests (ie: tonometry, corneal stain, Schirmer tear testing)
- Able to set up and assist with common ophthalmic procedures (ie: TPA injection, chemical ablation, aqueocentesis)
- Able to identify, use, and maintain specialized surgical instruments
- Able to independently perform safe anesthesia on patients with an ASA of III.
- Able to maintain concise, coherent, and accurate client communications including, but not limited to: obtaining a medical history; educating clients on ophthalmic procedures, treatments, and recovery; discharging patients after anesthetic procedures; managing phone and email communications from clients.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in veterinary medicine. Work history with a veterinary ophthalmologist preferred, but not required
- CVT preferred
- Understanding of common medical terminology and pharmacology used in veterinary ophthalmology
- Able to work in a fast-paced veterinary hospital with a diverse patient population
Physical Requirements:
This job is physically active and requires frequent bending and standing for long periods of time.
Flexible work schedule (ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays)
