Training Mentor of Primary Care
The Training Mentor is responsible for on the floor training of individuals and teams at each practice. This involves guiding assistants and technicians through routine appointments and sick visits, general practice surgery and procedures.
The Training Mentor is also responsible assisting the practices in streamlining the leveling of technical staff to increase opportunities for growth and learning at all the hospitals.
● Implements and tracks progress of all training initiatives in a timely manner as directed by the hospital management team at each hospital.
● Work closely with the Nursing Supervisors to identify training needs within each hospital.
● Work with Director of Training and Staff Development, Nursing Supervisors at each of the practices, Training Mentors, and staff to create individualized and group training goals and ensures their execution.
●Work with the Director of Training to help organize, plan, set up, and train at skill practicing labs.
● Work with the Director of training to develop educational courses online to go along with on the floor training.
● Write up or evaluate Standard Operating Procedures.
● Work with the hospital’s training teams to ensure up to date records kept on all technical staff regarding training accomplishments, CE participation, and leveling within the hospital training system.
● Work with the Director of Training and training teams at each practice to implement and give lectures and or roundtable discussions for internal staff.
● Identify and bridge gaps between an employee’ skills and their level/job function.
● Encourage employee participation in CE and internal training opportunities.
● Directly works with Nursing Supervisors at each practice to coach and direct peer training staff.
●Help train and welcome tech externs
● Helps to enforce hospital policies while present in the hospital and acts as an example for all staff.
● Always understands and exemplifies hospital Core Values (BE-EPIC). Holds training team accountable for upholding these core values as part of the vetmEDUcate team.
● Attend bi-monthly vetmEDUcate training meetings and send end of shift reports to ensure any training hang ups are addressed.
● Give constructive criticism and feedback to trainees as well as help form individualized training plans.
● Credentialed technician (VTS preferred) and 2+ years veterinary experience required
● Candidates must be organized, possess strong interpersonal skills, have a high attention to detail, and excellent time management skills. They must be able to facilitate change and learning and encourage engagement.
- Teaching staff to assist veterinarians and anticipate needs.
- Obtain vital signs.
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples.
- Test blood, stool, and other samples.
- Take radiographs.
- First aid/ urgent care treatments
- Restrain animals during exams.
- Knowledge of vaccinations and preventatives and able to provide client education
- Ability to teach proper time management and anticipating doctors needs in appointments
- Administer medications and vaccines, and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian.
- Train staff on sedation and anesthesia monitoring and surgical preparation for ASA I/II cases.
- Train staff proper history taking and husbandry.
- Educate staff/ clients about common medical conditions and zoonotic diseases.
- Educate staff on proper record documentation, scheduling, and billing.
- Fear Free restraint and handling.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
