Job Title: Overnight ICU/ER Veterinary Technician
Supervisor: Director of Emergency Services
We have exciting opportunities for Veterinary Technicians interested in overnights to join our general practice and emergency hospital! Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- CVT, RVT, LVT, VTS Certifications preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years experience in advanced patient care setting
- Previous veterinary experience
- Ability to learn and continually train
- Patience and respect for patients
- Good communication skills, coordination, and ability to take direction
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment
Essential Functions:
- Must be able to ambulate/move 90% of time
- Must be able to move supplies and patients up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to use Fear-Free techniques to restrain patients
- Must have the ability to work in a hospital setting, which includes:
- Exposure to potential caustic agents, medical grade radiation, and cleaning products
- Exposure to zoonotic diseases and wounds potentially inflicted by patients
- Exposure to moderate to loud noises (such as barking)
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete all treatments as outlined by the attending veterinarian (any and all changes that deviate from original treatment plan or timing must be approved by attending veterinarian)
- Complete all treatments from the time first rounded through end of shift, when the patients are rounded to incoming technician
- Knowledge of obtaining and interpreting patient assessments for awake, anesthetized, and sedated patients
- Accuracy in calculating and delivering anesthetic agents, fluids, and constant rate infusions
- Comprehensive understanding and experience with anesthetic monitoring and troubleshooting
- Knowledge and care with equipment use and maintenance, cleaning, sterility, and troubleshooting
- Ensuring all patients have a SOAP entered into Impromed
- Ensuring all patients’ charges have been updated and an invoice has been entered
- Cleaning/changing patient bedding if needed
- Cleaning treatment areas and tub sinks
- Ensuring doctors and techs have been fully rounded at end of shift and given financial updates as necessary
- Cleaning, vacuuming, and mopping the treatment and exam areas (as needed)
- Cleaning surgical instruments and running them through the ultrasonic cleaner
- Bringing laundry into the laundry room and making sure any pending loads have been changed over
- Mopping and sweeping floors
- Prepping charts and auditing for completion
- Prepping treatment and exam areas for exams or procedures
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor and/or management staff
- Adhering to all Absecon Veterinary Hospital policies and procedures
- Attending all team and department meetings as assigned
- Completing any required internal trainings or continuing education (CEs) required by Absecon Veterinary Hospital, or as required by federal, state, and/or local licensing/certification boards
