Job Summary
Provides health care services, applying pulsed radio-frequency waves and magnetic energy to assist diagnosis or treatment. Performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures, computer processing and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Role model for comprehensive care, addressing the physiological and socio-cultural needs of patients and their families and acts as a resource to other MRI staff in managing complex issues. Assures equipment is present and accounted for at the beginning and end of each shift. Assists in and facilitates employee development.
Essential Functions
- Verifies patients' clinical history, ensuring that information is documented and readily available to the licensed practitioner.
- Completes proper patient identification and order verification. Prepares patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
- Selects and operates magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices and associated equipment to achieve desired results. Positions patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
- Prepares/administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Evaluates images and data for technical quality, manipulates display parameters, and pushes images to picture archiving and communication system (PACS) as the accepted electronic format for permanent patient record, assuring proper patient identification is evident.
- Maintains a clean work environment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department unit employee(s).
- Assignments are moderately complex; follows established protocols and has some flexibility in exercising judgment within established parameters. Works under minimal supervision/instruction; may serve as technical specialist/trainer and mentor to less experienced staff.
Qualifications
- Required Associate's Degree or equivalent years of experience in related field
- Preferred Bachelor's Degree
- 2 years of relevant experience MRI experience required
- CRT-Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (MRI) - ARRT upon hire required Or
- CRT-American Registry Of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (MRI) - ARMRIT upon hire required
- CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA/ARC within 90 days required
