JOB SUMMARY
The Richards Spur Operations Manager is responsible for managing the various operations associated with mining, processing, stockpiling, loading, and shipping for one of Dolese's largest and most technically advanced crushed stone quarries through subordinate managers. This high-volume quarry services multiple in and out of state rail serviced stone yards and customer truck traffic through conventional front-end loader sales and automated truck and train loadouts. This position will enable Dolese's vision of being a unique and growing competitor though innovation and people by harnessing the potential of onsite employees and technology.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Integrity
  • Manage all operations for a large site in accordance with principles, policies, and procedures established by the company
  • Handle crises effectively and continue to achieve results despite obstacles and setbacks
  • Manage conflict by working through disagreements and settling disputes equitably

  • Maintain and audit facility safety records to ensure compliance with company and MSHA standards
  • Perform root cause accident analyses and provide corrective actions to facilitate the company goal of zero recordable injuries

Teamwork
  • Develop talent by providing employees with coaching, feedback, exposure, and continuous improvement assignments
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to meet shared objectives, crediting others for their contributions and accomplishments
  • Partner with the Aggregate Sales team to make timely and well-informed decisions, balancing customer needs with production capabilities and inventory levels

Stewardship
  • Drive employee engagement by cultivating employee ideas and putting them into practice to optimize the internal and external customer experience
  • Lead continuous improvement projects and execution of capital projects
  • Create and utilize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to diligently track and manage various operational processes from crushing and screening to mobile equipment operation and maintenance
  • Implement plans that precisely allocate resources in order to achieve site production goals
  • Ensure consistent accounting and tracking of all operational processes to enable analysis and reporting of key financial indicators
  • Integrate Lean thinking into the culture and organization to enable employees to improve their respective processes
  • Promote and adhere to Human Resources processes including, but not limited to, recruitment and performance evaluations in order to develop talent
  • Regular, reliable attendance at the worksite or assigned work location
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering or a related discipline and at least 10 years of progressively responsible related experience, including at least 5-7 years of management experience in a similar production or manufacturing leadership role OR an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Industry experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of rock and sand mining, ready-mix concrete and/or asphalt operations and equipment, MSHA regulations, engineering principles and procedures, and quality control systems and processes
  • Must possess knowledge and experience managing financial performance to established targets
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with both internal and external audiences
  • Analytical ability and resourcefulness, as required in developing and implementing improved processes and resolving operating problems
  • Ability to travel occasionally for work to field locations and/or to attend meetings or training
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends as required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift objects of various dimensions and up to 100 lbs. of weight frequently
  • Ability to work near, around, or on light or heavy equipment
  • Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and ladders
  • Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
  • Ability to use vibration producing tools frequently
  • Ability to tolerate working outdoors in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to repeatedly reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged standing/walking/sitting
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces
