We have an exciting opportunity open for a Manager of Operations Accounting with the opportunity to work remote from AR, OK, MO, TX, TN, LA, KS, FL, SC, or ME.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Operations Accounting Manager will be responsible for the accounting functions for Summit Utilities, Inc. This role will report to the Director of Operations Accounting and will work closely with other groups including FP&A, Regulatory, Operations, Engineering and Program Management and other operations departments. The position will ensure transactions are recorded in compliance with GAAP and FERC accounting standards and look for opportunities to improve processes.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage operating cost and related accounting processes, ensuring accurate, complete and timely recording of entries in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
- Lead, mentor and train direct reports including setting goals.
- Update and maintain month end close schedule; identify efficiencies and enhancements.
- Review and approve journal entries in accordance with month end close schedules.
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with month end close schedules.
- Review monthly expense trending reports with staff, ensuring expenses are aligned with expectations.
- Work with FP&A, Regulatory, Operations, Engineering and Program Management to research and resolve any issues with operating results.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual utility commission regulatory reporting.
- Assist with regulatory rate filings including data requests.
- Assist with interim and year-end audits.
- Ad hoc projects assigned by the Director of Operations Accounting.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s in accounting required
- 8+ years of accounting experience
- 2+ years of supervisory and or management required
- Utility or similar industry experience a plus
- CPA a plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills and meticulous analytical capability.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and ability to implement changes accounting guidance.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines.
- Ability to work in a remote office environment.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in the administrative aspects of middle management in a corporation including assisting in setting and communicating goals, delegating, providing feedback to employees, handling employee issues, and providing employee recognition.
- Business partner mentality with ability to educate basic financial concepts to stakeholders.
- Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects successfully while maintaining an even-keel approach and commitment to deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in consulting effectively with all levels of management including executives.
- Ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative analysis with the proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts and data in an understandable manner to all levels of management and staff.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Oracle EBS, GL Wand, Smartview, PBCS and/or SAP S4/Hana a plus.
