Onsite Fire Alarm Technician
The Fire Alarm Technician shall be qualified and trained to perform the tasks as described
herein. He/she shall be responsible for performing the assigned tasks. The Fire Alarm
Technicians’ activities include but may not be limited to the following:
- Monitoring the Fire Alarm Panel to ensure that it is fully operational. To investigate all
troubles and supervisory alarms causes, and report the cause of the event to the Fire Alarm
Support Shop team and Fire Protection Engineer the day of the incident. The
Technician is to assist the Fire Alarm Support Shop team’s technician in the resolution of the
situation.
- Collaborate with facilities and Life Safety personnel to schedule routine and emergency
Fire Alarm outages during regular business hours, after-hours emergencies, or maintenance
activities.
- Conduct routine surveys and inspections of the Campus, identifying Fire Alarm
deficiencies, and facilitating their repair with the Fire Alarm Support Shop.
- Collaborate with the Fire Protection Engineer on routine projects and installations
requiring testing and where confidence testing (anytime the Fire Alarm system has a program
change).
- Attend planning, coordination, and status meetings as required and provide copies of ALL
the meeting minutes to the Fire Alarm Support Shop team and FPE.
- Conduct post construction inspections of buildings alterations projects and report findings to
the Fire Protection Engineer and the Fire Alarm Support Shop team.
- Maintain the Fire Alarm Device Manual and drawings and ensure that they are current and
reflect the active Fire Alarm system.
- The technician will silence and reset the Fire Alarm system following activations of the system
after being instructed by District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD) or Fire
Protection Engineer as quickly and safely as possible to minimize the time required for
occupants to be evacuated. The technician will be the primary resource to react to a fire
alarm to determine the reason for the activation.
- Prepare evacuation evaluations within 5 business days following an alarm event for the campus.
This may include, but not be limited to, obtaining the incident report from the
Central Alarm Station. This report forms and instructions will provided by the Fire
Protection Engineer.
- Regular working hours shall be (7:30am – 4:00pm)
Job Requirements
To qualify for the Fire Alarm Technician position, you must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with Fire Alarm systems.
Additional requirements of the Fire Alarm Technician Position include:
· NICET Certification Fire Alarm Level 2 or higher
· Proficiency with computer skills, MS Excel, Email
· Strong customer service skills and communications
· Familiarity with NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and local codes
