Job Description:
Southern Utah University is seeking a reliable and professional individual to staff the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) clinic. CAPS is a busy college mental health clinic composed of 13+ professionals who provide counseling, consultation, educational outreach, and crisis intervention for the university campus. This position performs a variety of duties assisting the operations of the CAPS department. It involves a combination of reception and clerical duties, interfacing with students (client/patients), parents, counseling staff, and university community members. The position demands judgment and discretion, as well as comfort and sensitivity to a wide array of cultural and individual differences.
Consistent attendance, an ability to remain clam under pressure, the ability to multitask, and a helpful demeanor, both in person and over the phone, are critical.
This position involves reception and phone duties, the use of computer systems, and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work four-hour blocks of time Monday-Friday, with ability to work occasional eight-hour days. 10 am to 2 pm is preferred with some flexibility possible.
- Perform general receptionist/secretarial duties, including: -Greeting clients and visitors as needed -Answer all incoming calls and redirect and/or take messages -Keep waiting room / front desk area tidy and presentable -
- Knowledge with SUU departments/offices and websites -Work cooperatively with all members of the CAPS staff.
- Work with students, staff, faculty, and public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of clients at all times.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent GED required.
- Knowledge of professional business office procedures, filing, and record keeping; strong grammar and spelling skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to follow through on directions, complete tasks in a timely manner and work independently.
- Warm personality with excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a similar setting.
- Experience working with college students in distress.
