Position Summary:
- Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). This position is designated for licensed Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Physicians Assistants to practice as an independent provider in collaboration with ICU intensivist, fellows and residents within a multidisciplinary surgical critical care team.
- The APP is responsible for providing comprehensive and age appropriate care to critically ill patients under delegated physician authority.
- The SICU APP role is challenging and rewarding and allows the APP the opportunity to practice to the fullest extent of their scope of practice
Job Type/Schedule:
- FULL TIME NIGHTS with weekend and holiday coverage.
- The APP will have in house ICU intensivist coverage.
- The APP will be expected to fulfill 3 x 12 hour shifts; 6pm to 6am with flexibility; Monday through Friday night with occasional weekends. Minimum of 2 holidays. 5 weeks of vacation.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsibilities include obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, triaging/assessing the status of critically ill patients, developing and implementing plans of care, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests and performing invasive procedures.
- The NP/PA ICU/Critical Care will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary critical care unit. The NPPA ICU/Critical Care will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to critically ill patients and their families
- . Provides inpatient medical care for critically ill patients requiring ICU level of care.
- Works in collaboration with intensivist physicians, attending physicians, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently.
- Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- The Nurse Practitioner must have a current registered nurse license with the State of Michigan, a Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing school and have completed an Adult Acute Care NP program as well as Nurse Practitioner certification in the state of Michigan. Family Nurse Practitioners will not be considered .-OR- Physician Assistants must have graduated from accredited Physician Assistant program, be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, have an active State of Michigan Physician Assistant License.
- Requires certification in one of the following: ANA certification exam in a nursing specialty field; National Certification Corporation (NCC); National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Associates; and/or Certification from Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) -OR- a Physician Assistant must be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, have an active State of Michigan Physician Assistant
- All APPs are expected to develop and maintain a collaborative agreement with supervising physician.
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Must be eligible or have obtained a DEA number for prescriptive authority in Michigan.
- Must have no encumbering circumstances which would prevent credentialing by the Henry Ford Medical board.
- At least five years' experience as a Registered Nurse within a critical care environment is required and 2 years as an inpatient Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is preferred but not required. - OR- Physician Assistants with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in adult setting is required.
