Meta's Network and Infrastructure Services (NIS) team is actively looking for a passionate Network Engineer to help us build out infrastructure which gives people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Our team is responsible for network design, deployment, and operations for Meta's global engineering labs where we support multiple engineering teams. With the importance of rapidly maturing new technologies like the Metaverse and GenAI, we have entered in a new era of unprecedented opportunities to re-think traditional networking and iterate quickly in our environment. Required Skills
Network Engineer, Engineering R&D Environments Responsibilities:
- Work cross-functionally to design, plan, deploy, and manage network infrastructure in labs
- Perform network maintenance including hardware and software upgrades, migrations, capacity upgrades, and decommissioning
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, issue, and problem resolution. Leveraging packet captures and working with tools like WireShark to root cause network related issues
- Provide support and consultation to internal teams who utilize wired and wireless network infrastructure to test and validate new products
- Proactively contribute to and maintain technical and training documentation
- Collaborate across multi-functional groups and have the ability to learn and adapt to changing requirements
- Create MOPs for vendors to execute standard wireline and wireless network operational tasks
- Work cross-functionally with partners, project managers, network, software, and hardware engineers to validate equipment, software, and develop network solutions to meet test needs
- Approximately 10% travel should be anticipated to various customer R&D locations to assess and understand specific use cases
- Gathering infrastructure requirements, developing architecture and solutions for the build out of labs for Meta engineering teams.
Minimum Qualification
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of work experience responsible for designing, deploying and operating large scale networks
- Extensive experience in IPv4 and IPv6 networking, L2/L3 network protocols (spanning-tree, OSPF, BGP), TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, VRRP, LACP, MC-LAG, EVPN with VXLAN, ACL, and infrastructure cabling.
- Experience working in a multi-vendor environment with hands-on experience with Wi-Fi, backhaul, and IP networking hardware
- Understanding of physical infrastructure design including structured cabling, space, power, and cooling
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and deliver against mission critical deadlines
- Proven experience working in a global team environment and solving problems with limited supervision
- Experience working with code repositories and config templates for zero touch provisioning (ZTP) of network infra
- Experience in a coding/scripting languages such as Python, shell scripting etc. along with knowledge in code repository solutions
Preferred Qualification
Preferred Qualifications:
- Network test and automation experience leveraging CI/CD, templates, audit pipelines, zero touch deployments and tooling
- Experience supporting HW and SW test validation at scale in lab environments.
- Networking certification such as CCNP, JNCIP
- Hands-on experience working with POE, AC/DC power, fiber, and copper cabling
- Project life cycle management from requirement gathering to customer handoff
- Hands-on experience with test equipment in engineering labs
