Job description

The Network Administrator position is primarily responsible for the administration, operation, and support of the Credit Union ONE IT Infrastructure. This includes the planning, design, installation, configuration, maintenance, optimization, and support of servers, network hardware, software, data and voice communications, computer networks, Internet services, unified communications, data storage, desktop workstations, laptops, personal devices, and other components of the IT Infrastructure. The position of Network Administrator optimizes the performance of the IT infrastructure to ensure efficient, effective, and reliable IT operations in support of established credit union business strategies and objectives.

  • Network and Systems Administration Manages the day-to-day operation of computer networks including new implementations, system monitoring, hardware and software support, training, and special projects; plans, designs and implements data connectivity for local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) systems. Specialize in the Configuration and Maintenance of Palo Alto Firewalls. Configures, installs, and maintains desktop computers, laptops, personal devices, physical and virtual computer servers, software, and data storage systems; monitors and optimizes the effectiveness and performance of computer servers, data storage systems, and user devices; recommends and implements improvements to the server and storage infrastructure. Performs software deployment for department or organization-wide software installations and updates. Provisions, reimages, and tests new and reallocated computers, laptops, and other equipment as directed.

Also, develops short-term and long-term plans for the IT infrastructure in support of credit union business objectives by researching and recommending network, telecommunications, and server hardware and software; develops forecasts for data storage and server utilization, as well as network bandwidth requirements. Assists in consulting, planning, and coordinating with vendors and clients for hardware and software purchases, installations, and support; researches and recommends the purchase of related products and services.


  • Network and Systems Maintenance – Develops, maintains, and executes scheduled and documented network and server infrastructure maintenance plans, including operating system upgrades, patch management, application upgrades and maintenance releases, SSL certificate maintenance, and system specific maintenance tasks. Performs upgrades and maintenance on Palo Alto Firewalls, physical and virtual. Performs and maintains server and system backups; tests effectiveness of backup systems at regular intervals; reports testing results to IT management. Inventories backup media and ensures destruction of information in accordance with the Credit Union ONE Record Retention Policy. Provides direct feedback to team and IT Management on system and process effectiveness.

  • Network and Systems Support – Performs desktop, network, and server infrastructure support as directed. Researches, analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves network, server, and PC problems. Proactively monitors the network, servers, and software applications for issue prevention; monitors the system and data integrity of enterprise systems and server platforms. Analyzes system event and audit logs, performs diagnostics on computers, network hardware, software applications, and related equipment, and takes the appropriate action to resolve problems. Develops, implements, and maintains proactive network monitoring and automated system issue alerts to monitor the effectiveness and performance of computer servers and networking systems; configure after-hours automated system issue alerting for critical infrastructure components and business systems to alert designated personnel; responds to automated system issue alerts when designated. Suggests process and procedure improvements to resolve chronic support issues and system problems.

  • Network and Systems Documentation and TrainingCreates, develops, and maintains operational documentation to accurately reflect the current state of the entire IT infrastructure, including hardware, software applications, support logs, IP address allocation, network topology, telephone number and carrier circuit information, IT Services processes and procedures, BCP documentation, maintenance plans and schedules, system maintenance procedures, server and PC provisioning procedures, asset inventory and equipment assignment documentation, user account provisioning procedures, and other related information as assigned. Also, develops training documentation and provides training to the entire end-user community and Information Technology staff members on systems and department procedures.

  • IT Service Desk Support - Provides Tier II technical support to IT Service Desk personnel to resolve system incidents that require advanced technical skills. Also, provides direct end-user support and backup IT Service Desk support as needed and deemed necessary in support of credit union business objectives. In fulfilling these responsibilities, maintains and tracks support issues and calls within the case management system; maintains contact and follows-up with employees to ensure quality level of support; interacts with users in non-technical, clear terms; adheres to and enforces organization policies, rules, and regulations relating to technology use; contacts vendors, researches technical manuals, guides, web sites and user groups to answer user questions and solve technical issues or problems. Updates and maintains the CUO Alerts section of SharePoint to alert the organization of significant IT related events as directed.

  • IT Security - Monitors system usage to ensure the security of data and accuracy of access privileges. Creates and maintains Microsoft network user accounts, user profiles, file sharing, access privileges, security, and system event log alerting systems; creates and maintains user VPN accounts and administers the Aladdin e-Token system for remote access users; reviews active and disabled network and remote-access VPN accounts. Also, manages and monitors enterprise-wide anti-virus, anti-spam, digital asset loss protection, secure E-Mail, and E-Mail anti-virus systems. Monitors and resolves Secure Works co-managed firewall monitoring and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) alerts and service tickets in an urgent and timely manner. Immediately alerts IT Management of security-related issues and internal weaknesses in the enterprise IT security posture.

  • Business Continuity Planning - Creates, develops, and maintains Business Continuity Planning documentation and procedures. Performs and periodically verifies network, server, and critical system backups; maintains broadband backup network connectivity to branch offices. Also, executes periodic testing of Business Continuity Plan procedures to verify preparedness.

  • Telecommunications - Plans, designs, and implements telecommunications systems; researches and recommends telecommunications equipment and carrier services for implementation. Coordinates the ordering and installation of data and voice communication circuits, telecommunications equipment, and cabling. Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves telecommunications issues.Develops, implements, and maintains telecommunications operational procedures, maintenance procedures, end-user provisioning procedures, and systems documentation.

  • Voice and Unified Communications - Designs, implements, maintains, and supports voice and unified communication systems, including call routing strategies, call center applications, e-mail, voicemail, FAX services, audio and video conferencing, instant messaging, and communication device features. Installs voice communications equipment and provides support for phone sets and corporate personal digital assistant cell phones (PDA). Researches new and emerging communications-related technologies.

  • Innovation – Researches and implements new technologies related to the delivery of IT services. Consults with vendors on new technologies, recommends new technologies for purchase and deployment, and envisions new applications of existing technology to create new credit union products and services, and enhance the member value proposition.

  • Project Management - Possesses exceptional project management skills. Leads projects as assigned. Meets regularly with supervisor to provide project updates. Creates and maintains project plans that clearly communicate tasks, milestones, status, expectations, and resource allocations, including accurate project budgets.

Requirements:

  • 2 yrs experience with Cisco Switch/Router, VMWare, and Meraki Wireless equipment.
  • Certified or 2+ years experience with various firewall products.
  • Azure cloud/Office 365 experience a plus.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the basics behind the Internet and its workings (DNS, Security, HTTP, VPN, Network Security, VLANS, sub netting, etc.).
  • IP routing & protocol expert to have experience configuring and administration of TCP/IP, OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP & BGP within an enterprise environment.
  • Ideal candidate will have at least 2-4 years as a Network Administrator working within a network environment that services multiple locations.
  • Able to work extended hours and be available as required or necessary to fulfill duties.

Preferred:

  • Current certifications with Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft and VMWare.
  • Additional experience with products from such vendors as, Atos, EMC Avamar/Data Domain, Dell PC’s & Blade Servers, Brocade, Dell Force 10 switches.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office 365, Visio, Project, Windows 2012 & 2016 Server, MSSQL 2012 & 2014, Windows 7 & 10 Enterprise.
  • Microsoft/System Center, Oracle FISERV DNA, Dell Secure Works are also a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred, but not required

This is a hybrid position that comes into the office on a rotating schedule.
