Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Systems Operations Manager for the Information Technology Department (IT), performs duties in support of the overall administration of County's networked computer systems including, but not limited to, hardware and software installation, system security, and regular maintenance. Instrumental in configuring, maintaining, and optimizing network systems to ensure seamless operation and maximum uptime for the organization.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, install, and configure network hardware and software, including switches and firewalls.
- Implement and enforce network security measures, leveraging firewalls, IPSec VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities.
- Monitor network health and proactively identify potential problems.
- Collaborate with IT team members on network expansion, upgrade projects, and system improvements.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
- Administers the network system applications, including Microsoft 365, On-line Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint, and associated applications. Assists with Microsoft System Center Configuration management, including application delivery and patch management.
- Researches, examines, develops, and evaluates programs and systems to implement or improve processes and requirements. Researches and presents options to improve efficiencies in completing activities.
- Leads root cause analysis activities to successfully identify problems and develop solutions.
- Performs component repair or replacement of serviceable hardware items.
- Develops, recommends, and implements new or improved methods for efficient management and protection of information technology resources.
- Reviews and resolves known cyber-security threats and maintains a high level of threat protection by applying security patches, hot fixes, and patch roll-ups in a timely manner.
- Works with developers and vendors to maintain, support and upgrade network infrastructure, software, and protections for network system applications.
- Responds to the needs and questions of system users concerning their access to resources on the network and the operation of various network programs.
- Provides training and instruction to support end-users of County computer systems.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the County IT Department and various County departments during network related projects and implementations.
- Assists County departments in the identification of technology needs and recommends/implements solutions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- The job requires knowledge such as that is normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Three to five years of experience working in in the information technology field is required, preferably working in a complex multi-platform environment.
- A thorough understanding of information technology issues required. A comprehensive understanding of the inter-workings of network administration is preferred.
- Possess a strong understanding of network infrastructure, security protocols, and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to provide courteous and accurate support.
- Knowledge of the following preferred:
- Management and reporting of data
- Report writing
- General SQL functions
- Fundamentals of Windows operating systems
- Basic PC and peripherals hardware
- Desktop and cloud-based applications, such as MS Office

Working Conditions
- Normal office environment with little, if any, discomfort due to heat or cold.
- Occasional travel between Calhoun County locations is required.
- Periodic intermittent or cyclical work pressures are frequently experienced.
- Extended workdays (beyond eight hours/day and weekends) are occasionally required. Must also participate in an on-call rotation schedule.
