The Medical Technologist is responsible for the efficient, accurate identification and technical analysis of various constituents or organisms present in the human body that may be responsible for and/or related to disease. All technical work of Lab Assistants must be reviewed by a Medical Technologist before reporting. Medical Technologists utilize computer system to improve test reporting efficiency.
Requirements
Degree and Med Tech Internship. American Society of Clinical Pathologists, National Certification, MT (ASCP)/MLS. Good eyesight, hearing and physically able to sit, stand and walk for long periods. Manual dexterity and good eye/hand coordination: High level mental acumen at all times; Periodic heavy lifting (40-50 lbs.) required reagents and storage boxes. Routine bending, stooping, squatting, and overhead use of arms for retrieving and stocking shelves with reagents/supplies; Must be able to operate the equipment used for the job.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Medical Technologist, MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT) national certification
Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Analytical instruments, PC computers, copier, fax
Specialized Skills: Work requires knowledge and skills necessary to competently perform and report tests within the Medical Laboratory
