THE POSITION

The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person to work as Medical Records Assistant. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Medical Records Assistant, you will be responsible for the preparation, classification, and abstraction of medical reports. You will create and file Medical Records for individual inmates, compile all inmate Medical Records for transfer, and assist in medical department related data entry. You will ensure that medical reports and documented entries are done accurately and in accordance with documentation practices and department policies. Additionally, you will present Medical Records in court cases involving subpoena of Medical Records.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience in a Medical Records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or Medical Records program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
