General Summary:
Under the direction of the Practice Manager, or designee and in collaboration with the healthcare team members, performs a variety of medical secretarial duties using computer software, electronic medical records, and practice management systems to provide the highest quality patient-centered care to patients and families.
Responsibilities:
- Provides patients and families with a welcoming professional demeanor, superior customer service addressing patient issues, and outstanding patient care
- Schedules office appointments, assists patients with their appointment check-in and check-out, ensuring efficient practice patient flow using online check-in system. Contacts patients and families as necessary
- Collects patient balances ,copays, and credit cards at time of service
- Answers all incoming telephone calls and responds to messages received, ensuring accuracy, and referring calls and messages to the appropriate person as needed with follow through to ensure timely response
- Verifies all demographic and insurance carrier information for every patient, ensuring accuracy of pertinent data in the patient’s medical record
- Demonstrates an understanding of the organization, its policies and procedures and related practice operations.
- Complies with HIPAA guidelines, OSHA and DOH standards
- Attends meetings/workshops as they relate to current position and office workflows
- Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the office supervisor/practice manager
Minimum Experience, Skills,and Abilities:
- A minimum of 3 months of related or on-the-job work experience is required to become familiar with terminology, supplies, office set-up, and billing procedures.
- Ability to use personal computer to schedule appointments, update patient information and prepare routine forms memos and correspondence.
- Be comfortable with multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment using exceptional interpersonal skills

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Typical medical office environment requiring long periods of sitting standing walking
- Dependent upon practice assignment patients may be specifically limited to pediatrics or adult/geriatric patients

Pay: $18.25 - $22.67 per hour
