The Medical Laboratory Technician performs routine tests in a Medical Laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs manual and automated routine blood tests
- Prepares specimens for microscopic examination
- Operates laboratory equipment including centrifuges, dry bath incubators and blood bank refrigerators
- Applies standard laboratory concepts, practices and procedures within a defined field; may specialize in hematology, blood bank, cytology, histology, or chemistry
- Performs daily instrument maintenance and quality control
- Knowledge of critical values
- Maintains accurate records and data reporting
- Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
- Ensures to comply with HIPAA, CLIA, COLA, and CAP regulatory requirements
- Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program and successful completion of national exam administered by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathology
- One year experience as a MLT preferred but not required.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Maxim's Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
