Medical Biller and Coder/Insurance Specialist - 3 Yrs Exp Reqd
Position Responsibilities
- Evaluate policies to determine eligibility for surgery
- Ensure policy benefits are paid accurately
- Verify benefits and obtain authorization
- Request additional information when required
- Post charges and submit claims
- Follow up on claim status and payment
- Credential new facilities
- Apply appropriate denial codes if no benefits are payable
- Independent worker
- Interface with outside clients or other departments within the organization
- Assists with special projects
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of medical billing experience
- Strong medical billing A/R follow up
- Experience with UB-04 billing
- Highly organized and detail oriented
- Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment
- Understanding of medical terminology, medical billing practices and billing reimbursement is essential. (Ophthalmology preferred)
- Familiar with billing guidelines and regulations in various states; across government and non-government insurance carriers
- Strong computer and typing skills
- Utilization of electronic medical records systems
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
- Business letter writing and report preparation techniques and methods
- Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
Experience:
- Medical billing experience (At least 3 years required, Ophthalmology preferred)
- Certified Coding Specialists preferred
- Knowledge and experience with billing operations, including: ICD-10 and CPT coding, claims submission, charges and payment posting
- Ability to navigate EMR
- Strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines
- Excellent customer service and proper phone etiquette
- Positive attitude
License or Certificate:
Possession or the ability to obtain one or more of the following (preferred, but not required):
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
- Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
- Certified Coding Specialist – Physician based (CCS-P)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
