Medical Assistant Limited Xray - Ortho - Full Time

Job Summary:
A certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of health care for patients per their scope of practice, in the ambulatory areas of Erlanger.
This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State guidelines and are trained and assigned to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
Education:
Required:
High School diploma/equivalent.
For Medical Assistant: Completion of an accredited or governed Medical Assistant program OR military equivalent training OR one year of clinical Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years.
For Limited Xray Tech: Completion of required accredited radiology courses culminating in eligibility for licensure as a Rad Tech Limited Xray in state where services are provided.

-Ortho: 4 hours education annually
-Stroke: 1 hours education annually
-Spine: 2 hours education annually
Department Position Summary:
The employee must be able to:
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in physician practice.
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
Assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
Provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include:
o Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
o Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
o Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing,
collecting specimens, preparing for exam, collecting patient
history
o Performing screenings per provider guideline
o Assisting providers/nurses with various procedures, charting,
relaying instructions to patients/families, answering calls and
providing pertinent information.
Fulfill clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include:
o Sending/receiving patient medical records
o Obtaining lab/xray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
o Completing forms/requisitions as needed
o Scheduling appointments
o Verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics
o Managing and updating charts to ensure that information is
complete and filed appropriately.
o Reviewing in-basket messages
Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include:
o Setting up instruments and equipment according to department
protocols
o Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, equipment between
patient visits to maintain infection control.
o Running quality controls on equipment as required and
documenting/record keeping.
