Job description

TITLE:
MATH SPECIALIST - 210 Day Contract
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Position is responsible for supporting the school division's math initiatives by working with the Director of Secondary Instruction, School Administrators and staff as a teacher-leader.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold a valid Virginia Teachers License
  • Master's Degree in mathematics preferred
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of instructional best practices
  • Must possess excellent organization and communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers and administrators

REPORTS TO: Director of Secondary Instruction
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Demonstrate a deep knowledge and mastery of division programs, professional trends, and emergent methodical instructional programming and/or curriculum.
  2. Meet regularly with grade groups, teams, and the division data team.
  3. Provide curriculum support and training for all teachers and continuous staff development that supports school division initiatives.
  4. Model and coach instructional methods in a variety of settings (whole group and small group) and provide follow-up support.
  5. Collaborate with and coach teachers on the use of assessment data to plan instruction; analyze school math data and plan for future math needs.
  6. Provide ongoing training and follow-up in the use of assessment tools and instructional methodology as they relate to the division's math curriculum and the Virginia Standards of Learning.
  7. Assist in the selection of instructional materials to meet student needs.
  8. Participate in collaborative instructional planning.
  9. Conduct classroom visitations and provides collaborative feedback to teachers and administrators on the school's math program.
  10. Serve as a liaison between the school and the Director of Secondary Instruction by attending meetings and disseminating information.
  11. Maintain a comprehensive inventory of instructional materials and resources.
  12. Remain grounded in content standards and objectives in order to facilitate integrated and concept based instruction.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

210 day contract, exempt FLSA status.
EVALUATION: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations and evaluation of school personnel.
Salary to be established by the School Board annually.
