As a Carbon Markets Analyst, you are an integral member of the Research and Analysis team within the EM business unit. In this role you will provide analytical insight to support our Carbon Trading desk. Your expertise in statistical tools and financial modeling, along with your proficiency in Excel, Tableau, SQL and programming languages such as Python, will drive our efforts to navigate and thrive within the compliance carbon markets. Bringing your prior experience in commodity markets and possessing a good understanding of market dynamics and supply and demand fundamentals gives you the leverage to succeed in the primary responsibilities of this position which include:
- Coordinate reporting and analysis to support the Carbon Markets team:
- Conduct weekly position and performance reviews
- Track portfolio trends, and identify opportunities within the book in collaboration with trading team
- Make trading recommendations to portfolio managers based on market outlook
- Develop dashboards and reports in Tableau, Excel, and Python/Pandas or an equivalent programming language to support trading
- Work with the business analysis group to integrate new SQL and R logic
- Ensure that the Carbon Markets portfolio is up-to-date with reports and tools from other portfolios, thus filling the tech deficit
- Develop comprehensive supply and demand forecast models to support our business, including:
- Leverage and interpret third-party market fundamental models
- Conduct research to help guide the development of trading strategy
- Assist the Regulatory Affairs team with research on potential legislative, regulatory, or policy changes affecting the compliance carbon markets
- Improve commercial insights by liaising with the sales team to create tools and visualization such as carbon retail pricing graphs and Salesforce data dashboards
- Support the Carbon Markets trading team with ad hoc analyses to ensure the smooth running of the business
You are a skilled numbers person, capable of interpreting and analyzing complex data sets related to carbon trading and market trends. Your expertise in statistical tools and financial modeling, along with your proficiency in Excel, SQL, Tableau, and programming languages such as Python, will drive our efforts to navigate and thrive within the compliance carbon markets. You are a quantitative expert, proficient in technical and multivariate analysis, with a passion for crafting intricate supply and demand models, forecasts, and innovative ways to present complex data with precision and nuance. In time, you will become the primary source of analytical insight to support our Carbon Trading desk. In addition to quantitative proficiency, you exhibit a passion for commodity markets, sustainability and a commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and the following:
- 2 years or more of professional experience developing statistical tools and financial/fundamentals models, ideally in the compliance carbon/energy markets in North America and Europe
- Knowledge of other carbon compliance markets and voluntary carbon markets preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, balancing competing demands toward mutual goals
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate information succinctly to other team members
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; remain composed under pressure
- Strong independent learning skills coupled with a successful track record of self-driven analytical investigations
- Self-motivated, with a genuine desire to accelerate the growth of environmental markets domestically and internationally
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, SQL and Tableau required; working knowledge of other programming languages (e.g. Python/Pandas, VBA, R)
- BA/BS degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of professional experience and education
- Demonstrate a firm understanding of carbon market structures including compliance carbon markets in North America, Europe and ROW
- Exhibit comprehension of 3Degrees' overall portfolio position within the carbon markets
- Provide initial insights into the key drivers influencing carbon market strategies
- Take ownership of routine reporting tools used by the Carbon Markets team
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing reporting tools to support portfolio management decisions
- Showcase the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights for the trading team
- Become the primary source of market information within the Carbon Markets portfolio
- Generate innovative analysis ideas and proactively provide intelligence to the trading team based on market trends and insights
- Develop a reputation for delivering high-quality analysis that informs strategic decisions and contributes to portfolio optimization
- Showcase a track record of value-added contributions to the growth of environmental markets domestically and internationally
- Provide evidence of successful collaboration with cross-functional teams such as Regulatory Affairs, Sales, other EM analysts and key stakeholders to enhance market insights

- Compensation: The minimum and maximum salary for this position is $90,000.00 to $117,000.00 in the US. The level of pay within the range will depend on a
