Job Description
Lynker is currently seeking to hire a talented individual to serve as a Marine Debris Communications Specialist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Debris Program (MDP) ( https://marinedebris.noaa.gov ). MDP is a division of the Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R) ( https://response.restoration.noaa.gov ) and the U.S. federal lead for addressing Marine Debris nationwide. Any applicant must be able to travel periodically. This hybrid (work from home/in-office) position has required but flexible in-office days. This position is funded for up to 4 years through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding. The Marine Debris Communications Specialist will provide communications support to the MDP associated with BIL projects and initiatives.
OR&R is a program office in the National Ocean Service that responds to threats in order to protect and restore coastal resources. To do this, OR&R provides interdisciplinary scientific response to releases of oil, chemicals, contaminants, and Marine Debris as well as protects and restores NOAA trust resources.
Summary
The Marine Debris Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating, reviewing, and managing communications for the MDP. The incumbent will be responsible for taking complex information and developing blogs, web content, outreach materials, etc., that communicate effectively with a broad range of technical and non-technical audiences.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, experience managing and writing digital content, and is comfortable working on a variety of digital platforms. In addition, the candidate should be detail oriented and a team player that enjoys problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
Duties of the Marine Debris Communications Specialist:
Coordinates strategic communications across digital platforms, such as websites, social media, newsletters, etc.
Produces written material and develops and maintains content for sharing with diverse audiences in multiple platforms such as blogs, articles, websites, newsletters, and social media
Implements a plan for storytelling and identifies opportunities to communicate noteworthy project outcomes and appropriate format/media for delivery of information
Ensures communications-related tasks are integrated into the overall project execution schedule
Develops and maintains talking points and presentations
Provides clear, concise, and timely responses to information requested from NOAA, the Administration, Congress and external partners.
Leads the development and review of outreach materials, such as posters, fact sheets, etc.
Responds to and coordinates media requests and drafts news releases
Develops briefing materials, supports scheduling, and supports implementation of legislative strategy
Qualifications
Required Skills and Knowledge
Master's degree or Bachelor's degree and demonstrated experience in communications
Excellent written and oral communications skills with broad communications expertise
Experience translating scientific information into plain language and developing engaging content for different audiences
Experience copy editing documents
Excellent eye for detail and demonstrated experience with design and visual creativity
Ability to work on your own, as well as collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and within teams
Ability to work on multiple projects, be responsive to deadlines, and shift priorities as needed
Experience with the Adobe Suite preferred
A minimum of four years relevant experience
