The Position

To effectively manage and support the Corporate Tax Mission of ensuring a competitive level of tax in a responsible way. The position will focus on maximization of tax incentives and partnering with the business to identify and support Tax Planning opportunities.


Relationships

Position reports to Director of Tax at Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI). As part of NNI Finance, continual interaction with line of business personnel at North America and parent country affiliates as well as Global Business Service Center (GBS) in Bangalore, India and headquarters tax. Position will interact with external auditors, tax advisors and outside professionals as necessary.


Essential Functions

  • Tax Planning:
    • Partner with Corporate Tax, NNUS Tax Operations, business and commercial functions to proactively identify and implement efficient Tax Planning strategies, including developing and executing global and local tax initiatives to optimize the group effective tax rate and reduce cash taxes
    • Coordinate Tax Planning strategies and forecasting/reporting process around US Federal and State proposed and enacted tax legislation and guidance, including modelling US impacts of changes to business and US footprint as well as global tax authoritative guidance
    • Proactively advise and communicate with management on status and outcomes of planning initiatives, opportunity areas, and relevant tax legislative impacts
    • Research tax issues that are assigned or arise in the support of the business and provide tax advice and recommendations as appropriate
    • Coordinate with NNUS Tax Operations team to ensure that tax initiatives are accurately and timely reported and disclosed on the tax return
    • Research and prepare tax memorandums to fully document and address any impacts of proposed legislation, enacted legislation, or strategic Tax Planning initiatives
    • Support NNUS Tax Operations team on tax audits as a subject matter expert with respect to Tax Planning initiatives
  • Business Initiatives:
    • Assist in identification, negotiation and quantification of Federal, State and Local credit or incentive opportunities arising from business objectives and tax legislation
    • Assess ability to utilize tax credits and incentives considering annual filing positions and limitations, including ability to acquire “green” investment incentives
    • Ensure proper documentation of newly identified credit and incentive claims for tax files
    • Ensure that initiatives identified are fully transitioned to NNUS Tax Operations team
    • Coordinate with NNUS Tax Operations and business to ensure that tax initiatives are accurately and timely reported and disclosed on the tax return
    • Support tax audits inquiries concerning credits and incentives as necessary
  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Support ad hoc projects as required by local, regional or global stakeholders
    • Assist with the maintenance and update of process documentation for all responsibilities
    • Develop best practices and continuous improvement of processes within functional responsibilities
    • Serve as daily contact for internal stakeholders in regard to matters concerning assigned responsibilities, as required
    • Ensure proper development of indirect reports assigned to assist with completion of responsibilities


Physical Requirements

0-10% overnight travel required.


Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required in a relevant major, preferably Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or Finance with a minimum of 5 years Corporate tax experience either in public accounting, private industry, or both or a CPA license/Advanced degree with 4+ years of experience
  • Corporate tax experience either in public accounting, private industry, or both
  • Tax technical competency covering a broad range of complex U.S. Federal, State, and International tax matters
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills; strong attention to detail. The ability to work independently on complex tax issues with knowledge of applicable rules and requirements
  • Proficiency in tax technology as well as Microsoft Office products with a high aptitude for databases and spreadsheets for use in tax applications, such as Alteryx and/or PowerBI. Knowledge of SAP is desirable
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with all levels of organization. Ability to build relationships and collaborate extensively with key business partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to organize, effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced matrix environment
