What you will be working on:
As the Engineering Manager of our Energy Management team, you will be at the forefront of an extraordinary energy transformation by leading the charge in turning homes from passive energy consumers into active energy powerhouses. In this role, you and your team will be pivotal in developing technical solutions that not only enhance user participation in demand response programs but also drive innovation in how these programs integrate with home energy systems. Your team will have the opportunity to redefine comfort and control within the modern home, shaping how our customers interact with a growing suite of connected devices both inside and outside their living spaces. This team will involve mostly remote contractors to do the engineering work.
Who you will work with:
This role will primarily work with the Ecosystem team within Vivint, with strong ties to the back-end engineering part of the Foundation team as well.
The Ecosystem team is at the heart of the Vivint customer experience where voice integrations, connected car experiences, personalized automation, access, and comfort come together to enrich lives. We prioritize the user journey, ensuring that each product and experience is intuitive, enjoyable, and adds value to the daily routines of our customers.
The Foundation team develops the software, hardware, and infrastructure that lets our product teams deliver home experiences. The back-end engineering team specifically focuses on architecting our software infrastructure and operational environment to handle high scale (over two billion messages from homes a day and peaking at a quarter million database queries per second) and provide high reliability with zero scheduled downtime.
Essential functions and responsibilities:

• Build and lead an effective full-stack (back-end and front-end) team of engineers through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
• Work closely with your engineers and program manager to enable sustainable and timely delivery of technical solutions to address business needs.
• Facilitate a partnership between engineers, product owners, and other stakeholder to set the right goals and drive solutions for Vivint's Energy Management projects.
• Advocate for and implement engineering best practices and develop technical strategies to guide short and long-term plans.
• Partner with other leaders as we craft and evolve a learning and agile organization while nurturing a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with our values.

Required skills, experience & education:

• You are a technical leader with a B.S. in Computer Science or a similar field or equivalent technical experience.
• You love developing and growing engineers and have a track record of doing so; you thrive when developing great people, not just great products.
• You are passionate about teamwork and collaboration while coaching and mentoring software developers to deliver timely, high-quality software.
• You have experience in cultivating a strong engineering culture in an iterative, agile environment.
• You have led complex engineering efforts and know what it takes to deliver while maintaining a healthy team.
• You love solving problems with creative solutions.
• Self-starter, you don't need someone telling you what to do and exactly how to do it.
• You are focused on measurable results and user experience, whether those users are engineers or external customers.

Preferred skills, experience & education:

• Experience managing remote teams is a plus
• Experience with any of the following technologies is a plus:
  • Back-end: Go, Python, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes
  • iOS: Swift, Objective-C, XCode, iOS SDK
  • Android: Kotlin, Java, Android Studio, Android SDK
• Any leadership or management training or other signs that you actively work to develop your skill as a leader is a positive as well

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
